She had ignored him for the two weeks since the hotel. Sawyer had tried to get her attention, try to catch her gaze, but she never even looked at him. He was a ghost to her, something that no longer existed. Olivia passed the quaffle mostly to Jack, ignoring that she had another teammate. Sawyer wanted tell her that he had changed, but there were things he couldn't get past. Seeing the shreds of his friend's body continued to haunt him even three years later. He was amazed that he was even able to be in the same room with a werewolf, let alone sleep with one. The entire team, along with other local leagues, were invited by the Ministry to a luncheon as some sort of cooperation. He needed his damn teammate to cooperate first before getting along with any other team. Sawyer grumbled as he got ready, dressing in nice pants and a jacket, only going because it was mandated and to try to get Olivia to even acknowledge his existence. When he entered, he was directed to his team's table, seeing that Olivia was sat down next to him. Finally, maybe, she would look at him. If not, she would be forced to be in close proximity to him for him to talk to her. outfitOlivia Moretti

That night at the hotel had altered her in more ways than one. Spending the night with Sawyer had been life changing, but apparently it wasn't enough. Olivia thought he had changed enough to see past her creature status, but she had been a fool. After that night, she avoided him, unable to handle looking at him. She was consumed with shame and her heart broke each day she was forced to spend in his presence. He haunted her every step, memories of his wandering hands consuming her every thought. She hated that she wanted more.
Olivia didn't want to go to the damn luncheon. She didn't want to spend another moment around Sawyer, thinking about his lips on her, wishing that things were different. There was no choice, though, so she got ready regardless. Liv dressed in all white, tying her hair back in a neat bun. Her makeup was applied perfectly, every last detail in place before she Apparated to the venue. She entered and was directed to her seat, her stomach twisting as Sawyer was sat beside her. Of fucking course he would be. Her heart leapt to her throat, beating rapidly as she took in his handsome appearance. She hated how she was still drawn to him, hated that she wanted to feel him again. His gaze met hers and she quickly looked away. She kept her eyes away from him, casting her gaze about the rest of the room, taking in the other teams that had gathered there.

His breath was sucked out of his lungs when Olivia walked into the room. She was breathtaking in her white outfit, no stray hair on her head. She was perfect, and he hated that his body still shuddered and turned ice knowing that a creature was under that olive skin. He liked her. He could admit that to himself, but he was still fighting his own beast - the hatred for wolves. She claimed he hadn't changed, but he had. Just not enough.
Their gazes met. He went to open his mouth to say something, but she instantly looked away. Sawyer clamped his mouth shut, his jaw setting. He stepped closer to her, whispering, "are you ever going to talk to me again?"

Energy pulsed between them as he stepped closer and Olivia hated it. She wished he would just leave her alone. Instead, he kept trying to talk to her, to get her to look at him. She couldn't. It was painful being around him and she knew that the more she interacted with him the deeper she would fall for him and that's the last thing she wanted. They could never be together because of his, in her mind, irrational hatred toward werewolves and Liv wasn't going to punish herself by staying close to him. He whispered to her, his breath brushing over her bare shoulder causing a shiver to run up her spine. She refused to look at him, instead kept her eyes sweeping the room. "Not if I can help it," she whispered back, cursing herself for saying anything at all. Her gaze found Caty Prince looking stunning as she always did, the muggleborn witch meeting her gaze and waving with a bright smile. Olivia smiled and waved back, hoping that her friend would come and save her.

She didn't even look at him. Instead, she waved and smiled to Caty. Sawyer wanted her to smile at him. Those smiles made his heart flutter, despite not even wanting her attention then. Now, he was the one who was trying to get her to even look at him. He reached out for her, grabbing her by the elbow, forcing her to stare at him. "Jesus, Olivia, it's not like I'm completely a heartless-," he said, being interrupted by Caty coming over.

His hand made contact with her elbow, turning her so she was looking directly at him. Her damn heart betrayed her, fluttering at his touch, picking up speed as she looked into his ocean eyes. Liv swallowed thickly. He just didn't get it, did he? He didn't understand the things she's been feeling, how hearing him say he couldn't give her more completely crushed her. What she didn't understand was why he was trying so hard to get her to talk to him. Olivia stared at him with wide, brown eyes until he cut off, another hand coming to her shoulder. She turned and felt an instant rush of relief to see Catherine Prince smiling at her.
"Hey," she said carefully, likely sensing the tension between them. That's right. Olivia had told her he had been rude to her. That was ages ago and she hadn't had the opportunity to catch her up. "Hey," Liv said back, smiling again. Ripping her arm from Sawyer's grasp, Olivia reached over to pull her friend in for a hug. Caty gave her a look, silently asking if everything was okay. She nodded. A voice rang out from across the room, someone calling Cat back. The blonde looked between the two of them for a moment before she smiled apologetically. "That would be Charles calling me. I think he has a thing for me." She turned and waved before looking back to them. "I've got to go, but I'll come back later, yeah? Good to see you Sam!" Liv tried to hide her smile as Caty purposefully got Sawyer's name wrong, watching her retreating back as she left her alone with him. All friendliness was wiped from her face as she looked back at him. "You were saying?"

He knew he shouldn't have come to the dumb luncheon, knowing that there would be so many people here that would keep interrupting him. Olivia had lived in London for almost a decade; he had only been here for less than a year. But Gods, couldn't they be left alone when it looked like they were having a conversation. Or at least trying to have one. Sawyer was essentially shoved off to the side and Catherine and Olivia hugged it out, doing whatever women did. Someone else was calling for the third quidditch player, causing Catherine to leave them, not before she called Sawyer by the wrong name. His eyes narrowed at the retreating witch. Everyone knew who he was.
Olivia finally turned her attention back to him with the same lively spite and malice. Sawyer let out a heavy sigh at her tone. "You should really let people finish a conversation before you run out of their hotel room," he said in a hushed tone. She didn't let him defend himself when she said that he was changing or anything before she hurried out.

Olivia had a life here in London. She had friends and family. Some of her friends were signed onto Quidditch leagues just as she had been. Liv could see Noah chatting with his teammates, Stella among them, and Darius was with the Harpies. There were so many people she wanted to connect with, people who weren't Sawyer Rhodes. It was unfortunate that Caty was called away so quickly, leaving her alone with the one person she wanted to get away from. Her heart was working overtime, pounding rapidly in her chest as her whiskey eyes met the ocean in his. "You had said enough," she shot back quietly, her stomach knotting as she recalled the moment so fucking clearly in her head.

Her words were hushed and heated as her eyes pierced his. It has been enough for her, but not for him. By the time he had put on pants and looked out the door, Olivia was out of sight. It wasn't like a shirtless Sawyer could walk around the hotel calling for her. “Jesus, Olivia. Stop making me out to be the bad guy. There was more-,” he had gotten out before the awful feedback came from a speaker and someone started talking, saying that the event was starting. Sawyer groaned as the rest of the team joined them, unable to continue the conversation with Olivia until the stupid lunch was done.

The bad guy? Olivia stared at him with her eyebrows raised, the disbelief etched on every line of her face. Since when was he not the bad guy in this scenario? From Liv's point of view, she shared an amazing night with someone she wanted to keep getting to know, someone she wanted to spend more time with... only to be cold shouldered the next day. He treated her like the scum off his boot, something he didn't even care to discard, like that night had never even happened. Then he made it clear he saw her as nothing more than a monster, a beast, some wild animal that was better off dead. Then he changed, enough to fool her into thinking things were different, only to use her for one night knowing he couldn't give more of himself. What was worse was that she still wanted him to tell her he changed his mind. It felt like a hopeless case, but all she was trying to do here was move on. But he was making it really difficult to.
Before he could even finish his thought, the luncheon had started and they were surrounded by their team once again. Sawyer actually groaned and Liv didn't know if it was because he'd been interrupted again or because he wanted to keep talking to her. Either way, it was not a reaction she had been expecting. Everyone started to take their seats and Olivia tore her gaze away from Sawyer to sit herself down. He sat down beside her. There was that charged energy pulsating between them, their seats so close together that their elbows were touching. Olivia would move her chair over if it wasn't Lewis sitting right beside her. The beater always acted real weird around her, like he was a little kid with a crush on their teacher. Some Ministry official was standing at a podium, using his wand to amplify his voice. He spoke with a commanding voice, reminding her of her father, only this wizard did not have the presence Riccardo had. This whole thing was to help sportsmanship with the League. Apparently, there had been a record of fouls this year.
When the wizard stopped speaking, the food and drinks arrived. Liv was grateful for the mimosa and light spread before her, reaching for her drink and bringing it straight to her lips, taking a sip and hoping it eases her nerves. Her heart was hammering in her chest the more she wondered what Sawyer was going to say. There was more what? What could he possibly have to say? As the rest of the room started digging into their meal, chatting amongst themselves, Olivia took advantage of the noise to turn her head slightly toward him and whisper, "From where I'm standing, it feels like you just used me when you knew nothing more would come of it. Tell me how that doesn't make you the bad guy."

Sawyer was completely aware of the points of where their bodies were touching. It felt as if his elbow was on fire, the heat cascading up his extremity, making his heart thrum just as fast like they were in a game. But they weren't. He was only sitting next to Olivia while listening to some boring lecture about sportsmanlike conduct on and off the field. It was a game. Things were heated and happened. It a Beater was going to aim a bludger repeatedly towards him or a teammate, Sawyer felt no guilt if he kicked that player off of their broom.
He was shocked when Olivia started willingly talking to him first at their table. He wiped his mouth with his napkin and set it down, turning to face her. "I did not use you," he stated adamantly. Sawyer had craved and yearned for that night for months; he still did. He had not planned on it. He was only being kind when he asked her to stay in his hotel room. "I didn't know you would want anything more until you said it." Their relationship was difficult, to say the least. It started hot and heavy, until it was dipped in nitrogen, freezing it immediately. There wasn't supposed to be an end in sight to that freeze, until, well, he wasn't sure, but things were slowly thawing. Sawyer didn't know that Olivia would want more from him.

When Sawyer turned to face her, she lost that contact with his elbow and she felt it keenly. Her arm tingled in its absence, like it was craving just that bit of connection with him. She'd be lying if she said her heart didn't feel it, too. Olivia turned her shoulders so she was facing him as well, looking directly at him. It was the first time she willing looked at him since that night at the hotel. He adamantly said that he did not use her and she felt something stir inside her, her heart started to race. Her dark eyes, only slightly brightened by his admission, searched his blue ones for any sign of deceit. When she didn't find any, she relaxed just a bit. "I didn't know," she said softly. It was mostly true. She knew that she had feelings for him before the hotel, she just still had been fighting them. That one night changed everything for her.

She turned to face him for the first time in weeks, seeing those whiskey eyes stare into his. They could get him drunk faster than any other alcoholic drink. His heart thrummed faster and harder at her gaze. His breath felt like it was sucked out of his lungs. All just from her look. Sawyer had never had this kind of reaction to anyone else before. He didn't know how to handle it or what to do about it, especially when it came to a werewolf.
"Then why are you holding it against me," he asked, his eyes searching hers. "Olivia, I-I don't wish-, I regret what I said," he admitted. "I'm sorry."

Those feelings were stronger than they had ever been there in that moment. Olivia kept her eyes on his, feeling at peace for the first time since the hotel, and she knew without a shadow of a doubt that she loved him. There was no denying that the feeling was there. Liv hated that feeling, hated that she really loved it, hated that she couldn't be with him. Just that one stare had her heart racing so fast and left her with that silvery feeling she felt that night, traveling up to her navel. Her body shuddered with longing and she had to force it down, but the heavy warmth that washed over her refused to leave.
His stare was unwavering, those ocean eyes flicking between each of hers while hers did the same. Her chest tightened so hard that she felt like she couldn't catch her breath. Why was she still holding it against him? Olivia deflated a little, her shoulders sagging. So, she was not alone in what she'd been feeling, the way she had craved him despite everything else. What he said next surprised her so much she couldn't control her reaction. Her eyebrows shot up and her mouth hung agape for a brief moment before she regained her poise. "I - thank you," she breathed, her chest finally letting up. "I'm sorry, too. I - I don't feel the same things anymore." What else was she supposed to say? He couldn't give more of himself so where did that leave them? Liv was starting to realize that she can't move on if she's still close to him. Her expression darkened and she tore her gaze away from him to look at his hand instead. If she kept staring into his eyes, those feelings would never go away. "What other choice do I have but to move on?"

After hearing her accept his apology, Sawyer felt a weight lift off of him, instantly able to breathe easier. He knew emotions were strong, but he didn't realize how strong the hatred he had harbored affected him. There was still the immense grief from losing his friend. It was a loss that had altered him completely. But now was it leading to an even great loss - Olivia? His feelings were intense for her; better than any win or relationship he had experienced. There had been an instant connection, an extraordinary pull, a strike of lightning that brightening his entire life.
Her dark eyes tore away from his, and his eyes frantically tried to get her attention once again to no avail. He didn't know what would come from this conversation. He just didn't want her to hate him, thinking he was unchanged when she had changed him. But when she said those words, that she had to move on, it felt like someone was squeezing his heart, contorting it into an unnatural shape. His hand went out to reach hers, his mouth opened to speak, but someone else interrupted them. His hand withdrew and his mouth clamped shut as he turned to see who was saying Olivia's name.
