There was a dull ache in her head when Lydia woke that next morning, a soft groan escaping her as she rolled over and shoved her face into the pillow. If she never went to another party ever again, she'd be happy. No way was she drinking firewhiksy again. Her mind was really fuzzy on what happened last night, only clearly remembering it until Rose whisked her away for shots. Graysen and her were separated and she remembered feeling sad about it, but then Callum almost kissed her? Then she grabbed Graysen and walked away, but after that she couldn't remember a thing. She had a dream where she saw a mooncalf dance with Gray. Her fingers raised to her lips as she could feel the tingling sensation bubble across them, able to still feel the kiss from her dream. That had been so vivid, but it had to have been a dream, right? Heat rushed to her cheeks the more she remembered it, unsure of what it all meant. The dance was easy to explain away; she has wanted to see one since she learned about them. But the kissing... did that mean she wanted that? It was Graysen! One of her best friends! She didn't know, but just thinking of it brought a fluttering to her stomach.
When she climbed out of bed, she noticed she was wearing Graysen's hoodie from last night. Her heart leapt to her throat, beating there rapidly as she could still smell him on it. Slowly, her hands moved to take it off so she could hold it and inspect it. Her fingers traced lettering on it, unsure of what was on front of it, but it was a piece of him and, for some reason, it warmed her heart to know he entrusted it to her. She should give it back to him. Her stomach twisted a little at the thought, her brows pulling together slightly as she wondered why that was. It was his hoodie, after all, but there was a part of her that wanted to keep it. Maybe she'll give it back to him later this week. Yeah, that'd be good. Lydia set it aside and rose to dress herself.
With her arm looped around Cy's, the duo walked through the dungeons to the Great Hall for breakfast. When the massive double doors opened, they were greeted with a half-full hall buzzing with chatter. Liza hadn't gotten that great of a look at the party, but Campion's parties were always big hits. People were probably still excited from last night instead of being sleepy on a lazy Sunday. Her bright eyes scanned the Gryffindor table until they landed on the form of Graysen slouched over his plate. Lydia squeezed Ophelia's arm and told her she'd see her later before she bounded to him, her heart hammering against her ribs. It was only a dream, Liz. No need to get so worked up. She was going to pull him into a hug when she reached him, but something stopped her when she got close. Why was she nervous to touch him? Is it because of the dream? She didn't have time to dwell on it as she was sitting down beside him.
"Hey," she said with a smile, already wanting to grab his hand and hold it in hers, but her stomach fluttered violently at just the thought. "Did you have fun last night? I don't remember a whole lot, unfortunately. I've never had firewhisky before and I don't think I'm ever going to have it again." Her gaze was focused on his eyes, a happy smile etched on her face. There was warmth swirling around inside her as she stared at him, more flutterings stirring up in her gut. What was this feeling? All of this because of a dream? Lydia didn't know what to think or do about it. "Oh! I have to tell you about this dream I had! We were with the mooncalves and we saw them dancing! Man, I wish it wasn't a dream," she said with a wistful sigh, her shoulders sagging with it. "Did you get your happy memory?"

Graysen laid awake for what felt like forever, thinking about the kiss with Lydia, wondering what it meant, how it would change their friendship. He kept thinking about the taste of her watermelon lips, the feel of her hand wrapped in his, her warm body relaxing into him. It made his heart jump and his stomach flutter. He liked her. He told her over and over that he didn't want a girlfriend, hoping that she would stop with the matchmaking. No, he only wanted her as a girlfriend.
He arrived in the bustling Great Hall the next morning, searching for her vibrant smile, but it wasn't among the Hufflepuff table. Graysen settled into this normal spot on the vast bench, leaning over a bowl of cereal, hoping to look menacing enough to keep anyone from coming near him. Not that he had to. People stopped bothering him long ago.
He heard her voice greeting him, looking up at her smiling face, a smile and flutterings forming. Before he could respond, she asked how his night was, stating that she didn't remember anything. The smile and fluttering faltered slightly. "Parts of it were fun," he stated unsure which parts she didn't remember, but then she mentioned her dream. The one that definitely wasn't a dream. His brows inched together. If she didn't remember the moon calves, then did she not remember the kisses? "The moon calves dance wasn't a dream," he said with a hint of disappointment. "No," he answered simply, scooping a spoonful of cereal into his mouth.

Seeing his smile caused hers to brighten, but it started to fade when he said the mooncalf dance wasn't a dream. Her heart immediately sped up, hammering rapidly in her chest. That was... real? Heat rushed to her cheeks as she remembered the rest of the night. Gray was eating his cereal and Lydia's bright blue eyes were wide as they stared at his face. Her mind registered that he said he hadn't gotten his happy memory and she felt a sharp pang run through her heart. If the mooncalves were real and the kissing was real, then that meant it didn't make him happy. Tears flooded her eyes. "The rest of it was real, too?"

Were her eyes getting watery? There was no reason to. She didn't hurt herself. He didn't think he said anything that would hurt her feelings. She had said things that hurt his, like not remembering the kiss, so that meant that she had just kissed him because she could. It was just something that happened in the moment. It didn't mean anything. Olivia asked if the rest of it was real as well. "Like what," he asked. He didn't know what the rest of her dream was about. If it happened to be about their kisses, the one that didn't really mean anything, would he want that to change their friendship? He liked her, but he didn't want their friendship to change, not if she didn't like him like that. "Probably not. The moon calves were the only that happened," Graysen answered. His chest getting tight after he said it.

Did Lydia want the kisses to have been real? Her cheeks were burning at the thought. She didn't know how she felt about kissing Graysen because she was trying not to think about it. All she knew was that her stomach erupted with butterflies anytime it crossed her mind, tingles running up and down her entire body. It was a new thing she was feeling when it came to Graysen and she didn't know what to think or do about it. He asked her what else and Lydia swallowed thickly. She couldn't tell him about the kissing. If it was real, then he would know what she was talking about. Then he said probably not, that the mooncalves were the only thing that happened and she felt everything inside of her just sink. "Oh," she said, the disappointment clear on her Irish accent. "I didn't remember getting there or leaving so I thought it must have been a dream." It was... too perfect of a moment.

It was good that this happened now, instead of something awkward between them with him saying he liked her, and Lydia not. It was less embarrassing. This way, they got to keep being friends without any ramifications. Graysen could go along just being her friend, just like it was supposed to be. Perhaps Graysen had said that he didn't want a girlfriend too many times and jinxed himself. Not that it really mattered. He was used to being alone; this shouldn't affect him too much.
Gray shrugged his shoulders at her comment. Alcohol affected people differently. "Maybe the walk there and back were just too boring," he replied. The walk to the sanctuary wasn't boring. He had made her cry by snapping at her. At least she didn't remember that part. "Do you have a hangover then," he asked, sipping on milk.

Was it possible she only dreamed about kissing him? It seemed so real and so ingrained in the memory of the mooncalves dancing. Confusion and uncertainty were stirring up inside her, but now was not the time to deal with it. Lydia shoved the feelings aside and focused her attention on Graysen's bowl of cereal, mainly because looking directly at him only made it harder to ignore the storm inside of her. "Yeah, maybe..." she said, not all that confidently. Thinking about last night was just starting to make her stomach hurt. He asked if she had a hangover and she shrugged. "I have a headache and I could probably fall asleep right now, but other than that I'm alright." Wasn't totally true, but she wasn't going to tell him how she was really doing at this moment. "I think the next party I ever go to I'm steering clear of Rose Kelly." She could not handle drinking that fire liquid again. "And Callum, oh my gods!"

He didn't like hearing that she was in pain, even though it was because she drank too much. Rose had influenced the Hufflepuff. "Do you want to go to the Hospital Wing for a potion? I can walk with you," he offered. His mind went back to her stumbling through the rooted forest, being careful to not fall over. She wouldn't need his help now, but he wanted to make sure that she was okay. His face scrunched when she said Callum's name. Jealousy rolled through his veins. Maybe he should punch Callum for not asking for consent. "I can punch him," he offered. Graysen had punched people for less. He would do it for Lydia.

Her lips pulled into a soft smile at his offer to walk with her to the Hospital Wing, her head gently shaking as her eyes finally moved back to his face. Her heart was doing something funny in her chest when her eyes dipped and roamed over his features, so she just focused them on the vast darkness in his gaze. "I'll be fine," she assured him. "I just need to drink some water is all." Reaching to the middle of the table, Lydia grabbed herself a glass and brought it to her lips, lightly chugging it. The ache in her head was already started to let up. When it was gone, she used her wand to refill the glass.
Lydia giggled when he offered to punch him and she was sorely tempted to let him, but, "I don't want you getting into trouble because of me," she said with another laugh. She would just avoid Callum from now on, which wouldn't be hard to do. Even if the image of Graysen punching him in the face was one that delighted her. "If he tries to talk to me again, then you can."

Liza declined his offer to go to the Hospital Wing. Graysen hated feeling ill, always wanting something to take the discomfort away. If she changed her mind, Graysen would take her, or just get the meds himself and take it to her. She claimed that she would feel better with water. His eyes watched her carefully as he took another bite of cereal, not wanting it to become soggy. Her giggle made his spine tingle from the merry sound. Oh, Merlin, this was going to harder than he thought know they he realized he liked her, but he wasn't going to ruin their friendship over it, especially now that he knew that she didn't like him. "It would be worth it," he stated with a reassuring smile when she said that she didn't want him to get in trouble because of her. Graysen had gotten in trouble for less. Lydia at least would have been worth it. "You got it," he said, taking a bite out of toast. "Are you going to be able to make it through the day?"

In the light that shined through the tall windows, she could see the golden color swirling in his eyes. Had they always been so deep and beautiful? Lydia shook the thought away, focusing her attention on the glass of water in her hands as she tried to ignore the violent fluttering in her stomach. All of this from one dream? What did it mean? He said it would be worth it and her eyes flitted back to his face, her lips pulling into a small smile. Maybe it would be worth it, but she wasn't going to condone violence when avoidance would work just fine. Her stomach growled as she watched him bite into his toast. She should probably eat something herself. Ophelia would be fine without her this morning. Humming at his question, she made herself a plate with eggs and toast. "I should be able to," she answered, stabbing her fork into her eggs and bringing it to her mouth for a bite. "It could be a lot worse, I guess." At least she stopped drinking early in the night. If they had stayed at the party for the whole night, then it might have been a different story this morning. "What are you getting into today?"

After she had greeted him, Gray expected her to go back to her House table and sit with Ophelia. They were best friends. Lydia made it known that Ophelia took precedence. And it was her own table that the students were supposed to go and eat at. Graysen was surprised to see as she took a plate and added eggs and toast, eating her breakfast next to him. Graysen nodded his head, agreeing with her. It could have been worse. She only drank at the beginning of the night, but it was enough for her to forget the kiss. Graysen's heart jumped at remembering the kiss, but he smothered it, knowing that she didn't feel the same. "Uh, nothing. Maybe just learning a new song on the guitar or drawing," he shrugged. Graysen hated reading, but he loved listening to a new song and figuring out how to play it.

Despite the dream about the kiss and her confusing feelings afterward, she still wanted to hang out with Graysen more than she wanted to do anything else. It wasn't something that she could explain to you, the how or why of it, but it was something she was most definitely feeling. Lydia had taken a bite of toast when he answered her, a flutter in her stomach as he spoke. She chewed slowly as she warred with herself about saying what she wanted to say. Gods, she wanted to tell him about the kiss, but there was a part of her that was so terrified of voicing it out loud. She didn't know what the dream meant or what these feelings swirling about inside her meant and she was utterly unprepared for the reality of saying something about it. "Cool," she said, her head bobbing as she spoke. "Is that something you were thinking of doing in your dorm or...?" Her fork stabbed into the eggs again as she turned her head to look at him. "It's a nice day out," she said, gesturing to the sunny rays washing over the Great Hall. "We could, I don't know, hang out on the grounds or something." Lydia shrugged to appear nonchalant, but her heart was racing in her chest, her gaze going back to her eggs as the heat slowly crawled up her neck.

Graysen shrugged his shoulders at her question. "Wherever there weren't people," he answered. Sometimes he would play his guitar or draw in his dorm. Since the castle was vast and his dormmates had more friends than him, they were normally gone. If they were around, Graysen would search the castle where there were no signs of another soul - living or dead, which meant an abandoned classroom or random room that he didn't know the exact use for.
His brows furrowed mildly when she suggested that they hung out together again. He didn't know why Lydia was wanting to hang out with him so much recently after they studied together. They would hang out, but then that would be it for a few days. Or recently when she relied on her other friends to help her get her through the loss of her mother. "What about Ophelia? Or Liam? Rose," he asked, listing off more people that he saw her with more. Graysen loved to hang out with her, probably a little bit too much now, but he was always wondering why anyone, especially her, would want to spend time with him.

Right, that makes sense, she thought to herself at his reply. Lydia never truly understood their friendship, why Graysen would want to spend time with her and her bubbly personality. Why didn't he push her away like he did other people? Liam's words came back to her about how Graysen might want her and she didn't understand it. Why would anyone want her? She was just... Lydia. In all her matchmaking, she never once actually considered a match for herself. Sure, she's flirted with half of Hogwarts, but that was just fun, messing around. She never expected anyone to take an interest in her. But Graysen did. Whether that was romantically or not was unknown to her, but she couldn't deny that she was starting to think about it after that dream.
Something about the way he was asking about her other friends had her heart hurting. Did he not believe that she would want to hang out with him? Her gut twisted with guilt as she recalled the way she had kind of retreated into herself and Ophelia after her mother died. But she thought that any friend of hers would understand it. Her brows pulled together slightly as she looked at him. "Ophelia will be fine without me, Liam is probably with Bella, and Rose is definitely with Finch," she answered. She gave him an exasperated look. "Is it really so crazy to believe I'd want to spend time with you?"
