Tuesday, April 16, Late Evening | Hogwarts Library Ever since running into Atticus Ole had been unsettled. Listening to her old friend explain his journey through his mourning and loss and accept the strength he earned through the pain. It made her acknowledge she hadn't really dealt with the pain of her own loss. She'd been running from it so long she'd fooled herself into think it would never catch her. Although, she been forced to acknowledge that her fear of the dungeons was a clear manifestation of her PTSD. Still, knowing what she should do and finding the courage to do it were completely independent. Obviously therapy was a good first step. Her parents had been asking her to consider as much. But they couldn't understand the full scope of her trauma. She couldn't tell a muggle therapist about her decision to turn her back on magic, leading to her inability to save Isaac. And she feared admitting to a magical therapist that she been happy to live as a muggle. Would she have even known how to cast the spells that would have saved her fiancé's life? She doubted it. It was making her even more inept at using simple spells. Needless to say, all the uncertainty and conflicting emotions had been following her into her dreams. She needed to pick up more dreamless sleep potion. Merlin knew she couldn't ask Mael. He certainly thought she was a raving lunatic who over reacted to his explosion weeks ago. Perhaps the event that started her on this path of self destruction. Without the potion, Ole turned to the next best thing. Books. Not just any books. Books in the restricted section. Runic texts that were forgotten bygones of another era. There were still things to learn within the pages. She'd spend her evening translating dark arts tomes until she was too tired to dream. Or until morning. Which ever came first. She should add wideye potion to her shopping list. Eric Anderson

Humming bits and pieces of random songs to himself Eric wandered through the hogwarts library, missing. . . . well he missed a lot of libraries he'd been to over the years. He'd always loved libraries, he loved the books, the knowledge they held, the history, the creativity and imagination of so many people! Standing within a library one stood among the collective thoughts and lives of uncounted minds. People from all across time, all over the Earth even.
Everytime Eric thought about it he was once more amazed at how much a library could hold.
Perhaps he ought count how many authors had books held within the Hogwarts library? Or maybe not? Afterall, it was late, and he probably ought to go to bed. But he just wasn't tired, and the idea of counting authors was oddly titillating.
Turning down one aisle, up to 284 authors, Eric caught sight of one of his coworkers. If he considered about anything for any length of time, he might've found it odd that someone other than himself was in a library so late. But it was Eric, and thus, that little fact went right over his head.
"Ms Halley," Eric greeted her with a polite smile, "how are you this evening?"
Notes: Fun fact, this post was interrupted twice, by debats with my brother and partner about 40K lore

The runes on the page blurred as Ole's eyes crossed. She shook her head to get another look. Checked her parchment. She made an error. Glaring at her quill, she missed pencils. She should just keep a stock of her favorite muggle supplies. She'd either have to cross out her mistake and leave a mess or try an erasing charm. Grumbling, Ole reached for her wand. Hearing her name stopped what was sure to be a complete disaster. Turning to see who spared her parchment, Ole smiled.
"Professor Anderson," she said warmly. She liked the charms professor even though their interactions had been limited. Her reclusive habits hadn't invited much conversation outside Iola's kindness toward her. Despite the accepting nature of the DADA professor, Ole was still self conscious around the other teachers who might look down on her lack of skill with her spells. Iola had helped her get more comfortable using magic in her every day life. It still wasn't a natural instinct after so many years living with and like muggles. "I'm good. Avoiding sleep," she continued her answer and motioned at the open books lying around her. "I've found this is the best time to dig into the restricted section. Without the prying eyes of students. What's got you up so late?" she asked, hoping it wasn't an intrusive question.
One should always pause to discuss Warhammer lore.

With a nod like a bow Eric inclined his head towards Ms Halley. He didn't know her as well as he would've liked, actually Eric didn't really know any of his coworkers as well as he would've liked. It seemed to him at least that work kept them all busy. What with grading, writing lesson plans, and, in his case at least, keeping his classroom open so students could drop in for help at all hours of the day. His familiarity with the English language probably wasn't doing his social life any favours. Sure he got practice in the classroom, but those were very different situations.
"Oh? If it isn't too impolite, may I ask: is there any particular reason why you would do such a thing?" Eric inquired curious but also attempting to be conscientious of the boundaries surely between them. They were, after all, merely coworkers whom had only encountered each other a handful of times.
Walking closer Eric bent over the table with a hum he investigated the books and what not scattered about but avoided touching anything in an effort to not be too intrusive. He noticed runes and the librarian in him itched to get involved. "Ahh that is very understandable, students can be quite a lot at times," the man nodded in agreement.
With a boyish grin Eric chuckled, "Well you see, my problem is twofold," Eric began holding up one finger. "Firstly: I have a most terrible habit of reading late into the night. Secondly, I have yet to memorise this whole library. When I worked at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina I memorised everything within the Rare Books and Special Collections. Now, the castle is easy enough to learn. But the library," smiling Eric sighed in a way that could best described as 'Lovestruck'. "Pardon, I am rambling, am I not? Most specifically I am looking for a few new books to read, while attempting to become more familiar with the library."

Ole couldn't help but smile at the handsome professor who seemed even more smitten about being surrounded by books than she did. He had a way of putting her at ease, and she felt some of her tension and anxiety leave her. She hadn't realized how tightly her her muscles had been clenched until rolling her neck. Ole didn't think he was being impolite with his curiosity, she also didn't think he was asking for an entire dissertation on the reasons for her current avoidance tactics. "I guess you can say I have a habit of trying to run away from my problems. The library is as good of place as any," she finally settled on a bit of honesty without oversharing.
Unable to decide if he was exaggerating about memorizing full texts, her interest was peaked at the mention of such a grand library. "You worked at the BA? I'd love to get my hands on the physical copy of the Greek Magical Papyri," she said sitting forward in her seat, supremely interested. "Tell me, do you think there's a hidden cipher in the papyrus?" she asked. She never had a good excuse to request an audience with the pages. After all, they weren't in her runic specialty, but Coptic and had similarities when it came to magical writings. It was curious to her that the Egyptian ministry of magic hadn't scoop up the writings that were clearly magical heritage. If he studied the pages perhaps he had some insight.

His curiosity more the piqued Eric listened, honestly he would have prefered some elaboration, but asking felt rude. If Ms Halley wasn't saying any more Eric had to assume she had her reason. "Ahhhh, oui it is very good for that," He agreed with a nod fondly looking over the many shelves full of books, "I believe is was David Mitchell who said, 'Escape is never further than the nearest book'," Eric quoted like a man who read too many books and had even more confidence. Some could say that Eric was overly fond of quotes.
Lighting up like a kid at Christmas Eric made himself comfortable. "Oui, for several years, mostly just translating, especially for visitors," Eric explained, always happy to talk about his time working at Bibliotheca Alexandrina. "That was went I learned English. Imagine, four and a half languages, and yet I needed to learn another for the Americans." He gripped playfully with a chuckle, he wanted to lighten whatever dark mood was dragging Ms Halley down. He got the feeling that Ms Halley was stressed out. One didn't just stay up all night unless they were consumed with work, or using work to distract themselves from their own minds.
Eric grimaced apologetically, "I was living without magic at the time," he explained, "I have seen magical artifacts before, never thought to magically examine it at the time, sadly." At the time magically examining anything had been very far from Eric's mind, he'd been too focused on his life without magic. Looking into things with any amount of magic just hadn't crossed his mind. Now that he'd been given the thought Eric was actually very interested in Greek Magical Papyri and examining magic. Then an Idea came to Eric, like divine inspiration, "I did met a witch, she too worked at the library," he hinted, growing excited. "Perhaps if I were to visit she might help me get within range of. Do you think that you might be interested in joining me?" He offered, just a touch hesitant, he didn't want to make Ms Halley uncomfortable.
