Spring had finally arrived, though it was honestly starting to feel more like summer. It was a beautiful Thursday afternoon and Lydia just got out of Herbology. She walked out of the greenhouses alongside Graysen, the pair of them chatting and smiling as they moved through the castle. Well, mostly it was Lydia chatting and Gray listening, but she did get a few smiles out of him and even a laugh so she considered that a win. She could feel her chest starting to lighten the more she hung out with him, the weight of her grief easing until she was able to forget it was even there. That was new for the Hufflepuff, but she certainly wasn't complaining about it. They walked in the direction of the courtyard, Lydia needing to meet up with Liam about History of Magic. She hated the subject with a passion, but her friend was determined to ensure she was getting decent marks in it.
When they stepped outside and into the sunlight, Lydia sighed happily. The courtyard was crowded and lively, everything Graysen did not like, so Liza hugged him tightly and said goodbye to him as he went back inside. The skies were clear and there were a few students flying their brooms above the castle grounds. Lydia spotted Liam nearby on a stone bench, away from the kids playing Gobstones. She waved excitedly at him and bounded over to him, joyously taking a seat beside him and pulling him into a hug. "Liam! Glad to see you were able to break away from Bella long enough to pay attention to me," she teased him with a laugh, leaning back and taking her bag off her shoulder. She groaned. "It's such a nice day, do we really need to study?"

History of Magic was his favorite subject, and while others would argue it was a bore, he'd argue the facts were worth studying. How else were they to avoid repeating history? The course could be a little dry at times, he would admit to that. However, with the right Professor and an equal distribution of information that maintained the audience's attention, it could be equally fun and entertaining. This was the approach he'd have to take with Lydia. She was no fan of the class, but as her friend, it was his job to ensure she maintained worthy marks so that her future could continue to remain bright. He smiled inwardly at the thought. Lydia was bright enough to light up the world on its darkest night. She didn't need good marks, but it was a plus.
He flipped through the pages of the book, the sun warming his back. It was a nice day to be outside. After the mass amounts of cold weather and snow, this was a welcome turn. He looked up and glanced around, wondering if Lydia had decided to ditch the study session. He'd hunt her down if that was the case. His expression melted into genuine happiness as he spotted her. She hugged him, and he returned it with equal force. He flushed immediately when she mentioned Bella. Yes, Bella was the highlight of his life right now. She was sweet and kind and just perfect in every way. It wasn't his fault he couldn't separate from her! "Well, to be fair you seem to have replaced me just fine." He nodded in Graysen's direction. He gave an exaggerated huff when she asked if they could avoid studying. "Yes ma'am. Don't you want to pass this exam?" He crossed his arms and gave her a sideways glance. "It's not going to be too bad, I promise."

Lydia simply shrugged when he said she had replaced him just fine, pulling out a couple apples from her bag. "You know, Gray is the one person I can't seem to find a match for," she mused as she handed him one of the apples before biting into her own. It was kind of frustrating, honestly, but she wasn't discouraged in the least. She just needed to be a little more creative is all. Liza rolled her eyes playfully when he asked if she wanted to pass the exam. Did she? She honestly didn't care. It's not like one poor mark was going to make or break her grade. But he promised it wouldn't be too bad and she huffed out a sigh. "Fine, but I'm holding you to that." Frowning, Lydia reached into her bag and pulled out her book, opening it with her free hand as she bit into her apple again. She rifled through the pages before she found the one she wanted and looked over at Liam apprehensively. "Okay, I'm ready."

Liam gave a snort of amusement as Lydia started on about trying to find Graysen a match. "I've been meaning to ask you, are you going to open up a matchmaking shop after graduation?" He was only partly teasing her. "I'm sure you'll figure it out in due time." He was shaking his head. He was convinced that if Lydia didn't obsess over pairing at least one person a day, she might disappear from the face of the earth. He was tempted to inquire a bit more into her previous picks for the Gryffindor, but then they'd never get any studying done. That being said, Graysen was reserved, so for him to find a friend in Lydia was something worth taking note of. "Thank you," he said as she handed him an apple. It was one of his favorite snacks. Lydia was a good friend to remember. "We'll make it a game so you can retain the information. The test is going to be on the Goblin Rebellion. As you know, there were many, so we'll review each one." He paused, taking a bit out of his apple. "Who was the first person you tried pairing Greyson with," he asked. There was a method to this madness.

"I can do that?" she asked excitedly, bouncing a little on the bench. The idea was appealing, but she already knew she wanted to work with magical creatures when she graduated. Maybe she could make a dating site on the Wiznet. You know, that could actually work. She'd have to figure out the spellwork involved and hope she was skilled enough to pull it off, but she was already thinking of the designs. He said that they'd make a game out of their study session and Lydia brightened a little, but then her face fell when he said they'd go over each Goblin Rebellion. Lydia didn't want to go over every single one of them; she was bound to get stuff mixed up that way. Then he surprised her by asking her who the first person she tried to pair Graysen with. Her brows knitted together and she gave him a look, like she couldn't believe he was asking that. "Imogen Harris," she replied. "He flat out refused to talk to her."

She was adorably innocent. If anyone deserved a match, it was her. He gave a small nod. "Absolutely. You can do anything you put your mind to Lydia. You know this. You've only paired half the school. You might as well get paid for it." He leaned back and gazed up at the sky. They'd made a good decision when they decided to study outdoors. The Ravenclaw nodded when she spoke of Imogen Harris. This was perfect. "That's rough," he said with a small sigh. "But this works perfectly for our game. The first rebellion will be the Goblin Rebellion of 1612. They revolted due to discrimination and a lack of representation. Kind of like how Graysen found Imogen revolting." He paused. "That's a terrible way of putting it, but you get what I'm saying, right? She didn't have the qualities he was looking for." He gave a dismissive wave. "Who was the second?"

Her nose wrinkled playfully at his words and she took another bite from her apple, thinking about it as she chewed. She was really liking the Wiznet idea. Nathaniel would know more about how to do all that, maybe she'd talk to him at dinner tonight. The sun beamed down on them and Lydia basked in the warmth of its rays, loving how the weather turned. If it continued to be this nice, they might get to swim in the lake by May.
Imogen Harris would have been the perfect match! But Gray didn't want to hear any more about it so she eventually just dropped it. Lydia was disappointed to say the least, but she was not discouraged. She continued to search for a match for him. The witch couldn't stop herself from giggling at his way of connecting the two topics. "Okay, yeah kinda. But I'm not as confident as you are that this is going to work," she said before he asked who the second person was. "Ainsley Elwood. I thought she would be perfect."

"You don't my logic," he asked with a raised brow. "Oh ye of little faith." He flashed her a smile. "It'll come together here shortly. I promise." He tapped her parchment. "Make sure to write it down or this will all be for naught." He'd done a similar study session with Ralph not too long ago. His brother made decent marks, but he'd do better if he could focus on school instead of his next big adventure. Ralph was a little easier to work with when it came to studying history. He liked collecting chocolate frog cards, so there was some exchange and reward. When it came to subjects like Herbology, he had to use comic book characters to get Ralph to make a correlation.
"Why did he turn down Ainsley?" He thought Ainsley was brilliant, but it didn't mean she had to be a perfect match for Graysen. That much was obvious considering the two of them weren't together. "And what made you think she was perfect," he asked. Sometimes he got a little curious about how Lydia came up with possible matches. She was good at what she did, but he wanted to know the method behind the madness. Note: So many familiar names. The nostalgia is hitting so hard.

Yes, she was doubtful. Not of his method, but of her own ability to retain it. Lydia's hyperactive mind didn't know what to do with boring information and she definitely found history to be boring. No offense, Liam. He reminded her to write down notes and she jumped a little, grabbing her quill and parchment and scratching down 'Goblin Rebellion 1612 = Imogen Harris'. She paused and thought to herself that that might not be enough to remember before she leaned back down to scribble some other things he had said about it. Maybe this would work after all.
Liam asked why he turned down Ainsley and Lydia simply shrugged. "I don't know, that she was too kind or something? I don't get it." Ainsley was a kind witch. And cute, adventurous, flirty, and fun to be around. Plus she was smart! She didn't understand why Graysen didn't like her. "I thought she'd be able to get him to come out of his shell," she replied. "He gets along with me and Ainsley and I are kind of alike so maybe that would help."
Note: I'm glad! April said you'd know those ones so I had to include them

While Lydia wrote down her notes, Liam was reading over a few of his own. He was trying to see what the best way to compare Ainsley to the next Goblin rebellion. Once Lydia informed him of Graysen's reasoning for turning Ainsley down, Liam wrote something down on the parchment. He'd heard a lot of excuses to not date someone, being too kind was one of them. It was the reason he'd been put off by the idea of Nate pursuing Bella. He thought Nate would have been a bad choice for someone as sweet as Isabella Clarke. No, he was not being biased back then! "Don't take the setback too hard. He might have been trying to protect her." Liam gave her a hopeful look. "You'll figure it out eventually. Actually, have you tried asking Graysen what he wants in a girlfriend? I mean, do you know his type?" He gave her an amused look when she revealed that she and Graysen got along just fine. "Maybe he doesn't like Ravenclaws," he suggested with a small shrug. He was only half kidding.

Maybe, she thought. Graysen was kinder than he thought he was. There was a big heart underneath that tough exterior, she just knew it. She's seen it in the way he acts around her. It is known throughout the castle that Graysen Phillips has no patience for anyone, but he's always had endless amounts of it for her. The fact that Liam was hopeful she'd get it right in the end lifted her spirits, the girl offering a small smile to him. When he asked if she had asked what Gray was looking for in a girl she shook her head. "He says he doesn't need a girlfriend," she told him with a small eyeroll. "I think that's precisely what he needs! Someone for him to love and get him to open up more. I don't know anyone more deserving of that than Graysen." Her cheeks were feeling a little warm, but surely that was because of the sun. Lydia threw Liam a disbelieving look when he said maybe he didn't like Ravenclaws. "Graysen doesn't really like anybody. He doesn't care what House they're in." She sighed. "I don't know. No one feels just right for him. It's kind of infuriating."

He figured that would be Graysen's answer, but leave it to Lydia to think otherwise. The Ravenclaw couldn't help but smile at Lydia's words. She really was a sweetheart. She always meant well. He wasn't originally going to say anything, but he sort of felt obligated. Lydia was his friend, and while she wanted to see everyone paired up and happy, he wanted the same for her. "You know, Lydia, I think the answer may be closer than you think. You say Graysen doesn't like anyone, but you spend a lot of time with him, and per your words, the two of you get along just fine. Maybe he doesn't want you to find him a girlfriend, because maybe he just wants you." He gave a small shrug. They were so far from studying, but it could wait for this. Graysen didn't seem like the friendly type to Liam, but Lydia spoke highly of him. Lydia was always very kind and maybe a smidge naive, but he was going to give her the benefit of the doubt. "Then again, I could be wrong," he added nonchalantly, though there was nothing in his voice that backed that statement.

Her bright blue eyes fell to rest on the sculpture in the middle of the courtyard as her mind continued to go in circles, trying to figure out someone to pair him with. It seemed an impossible task which only frustrated her more. There was no way that he was unmatchable. He was too good of a person to be. Her eyes were brought back to Liam's face when he started talking, her mind quieting a little to hear what he was saying. Her eyebrows knitted together when he said the answer may be closer than she thought, though they slowly started to unfurrow as he went on, jumping up her forehead when he said maybe Graysen just wants her. A strange, high-pitched laugh fell out of her and she started shaking her head very quickly. "No, you're wrong," she said. "You're wrong! Graysen and I are just friends! He doesn't see me that way and I..." she trailed off as the words escaped her, her head shaking again. She liked Graysen and thought the world of him, but she didn't think of him romantically. Right? He was cute, but he had always been cute! Thinking about this was just too much right now. "We're just friends."
