with spring in bloom, so forth came the rain. juniper had all but expected it after the last snowfall - nothing could ever really prepare her. the horses were off their rockers with the seasons change, and the creatures all stirred with delight in wait for the warmth again. it was particularly stormy that morning, and with the investigation on pause (or considering how confusing things had become for her) she had little to do but sit and ponder.
juniper was going mad with it. so, she decided that she’d pull herself together and have her coffee on the terrace of the sanctuary castle. truthfully, she would have preferred something stronger. the rain spattered angrily over the stained glass that shielded her, a slight chill in the air as she sipped and turned the pages of her book. normalcy, she thought to herself, wouldn’t exist today. she could feel it in her bones.

Rip was slowly losing his mind and he wasn't sure when it started. Well, that's a lie he knew exactly when it started. Meeting Juniper had altered something in him and he didn't know if he'd ever be whole again. Since she came into his life, he had been consumed with thoughts of her startling green eyes, her smooth, velvety voice, and her soft, olive skin. It was frustrating, maddening, and completely out of his control. He tried for months to focus on work, to block the thoughts from his mind to no avail. She simply refused to leave his head. It was starting to affect his job as Rip lost sleep over this. He had known for a long time now that he wanted her, but he couldn't bring himself to commit to anything. Not with her being involved in his case and the obvious age gap.
Some days it seemed impossible to fight, especially after the last time they fell into each other. The memories of that night were scorched onto his brain, branding him with her touch. When he was actively working, he was able to block them out long enough to get stuff done, but when he was alone at his place like today, he was fighting a losing battle. It wasn't even noon and he was sitting in his living room with a glass of firewhiskey in his hand. His blue eyes were stormy as they stared into the fire, watching the flames flicker and lick up the walls of the fireplace, reliving the moment they connected over and over again until he was driven completely mad. When he couldn't fight it anymore, he downed the rest of his drink and left despite himself.
The rain was coming down on top of him as he made his way to the sanctuary castle, his boots pressing into the soggy ground as he walked up to the gargoyle. He didn't know what he was doing; he hadn't seen Juniper in weeks. He didn't even know if she wanted to see him or if she'd kick him out the moment she saw him, but he couldn't stop himself from craving her. The door opened and he decided to take that as a good sign, slowly entering. Rip pulled out his wand and waved it at his person, drying himself off and cleaning the mud off his boots before stepping completely inside. He looked around for her, but didn't see her anywhere. "Juni?" he called out.
