Nathaniel James Note: this thread takes place during the last month of the previous term.
“Are you sure this is the real deal and you didn’t just get ripped off?” Izzy pulled a face at the sighed of a dirty slipper. The two young criminals had gathered in a hidden Hogsmaede alleyway where their supposed ride to Diagonalley should be. This dirty slipper had to be their portkey if it worked. The two were hurdled underneath Nate’s invisibility cloak, packed for the big bust. Izzy desperately needed this to go over well. If he returned home in the summer without enough money it wouldn’t be just him suffering the consequences. He had to do this for Kenny.
Izzy took a deep breath and quickly went over the potions he had brought. They couldn’t use magic but that didn’t mean they were without sources. “This better work out or we’re both royally screwed.” He didn’t want to think about what his father had in store if he returned home empty handed. “Should we both chuck a calming draught to keep our heads cool during the big gig?”

"Yes, I'm fucking sure," Nate said, perhaps a bit irritatedly. June had arrived and it was a sweltering one. Beads of sweat were rolling down his neck and his face as he was huddled under the cloak with Izzy and his back was positively soaked from the backpack. He pulled his arm forward to look at his watch. "The letter said it would activate at 2:36 on the dot. We've got fifteen more minutes." Nathaniel turned his head to look at his friend, acquaintance, partner in crime whatever you wanted to call him, as he started speaking again. Nate swallowed a little as he thought about the ramifications if this went sour. You know, actually, he didn't want to think about it. "It'll work out," he promised. They both needed it to. Izzy asked if they should drink a Calming Draught and Nate just waved his hand at him. "If you feel like you need one, then do it. I'm good."

Izzy was on the edge; the heat didn’t help. Since when did it get so ungodly hot in Britain? Climate change wasn’t messing around. With the two huddled together underneath the Ravenclaw’s cloak the sauna experience was complete. He swore he could almost feel Nate’s sweat and his mixing. Which would be kind of hot if Nate was his type. Now it was just a nuisance.
“Hold up, we've gotta wait like this for fifteen more minutes?” He hissed despite wanting to scream. Drawing attention would be a bad idea. Izzy pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled deeply to calm down despite the heat. “You know what… That’s fine… At least we won’t miss the take off,” he concluded after thinking over the situation.
Izzy decided not to take the potion for now. Maybe if it failed he might need it but he didn’t want to jinx that.

"Did I say fifteen minutes? I meant three," he said with a wicked grin and a quiet laugh, unable to resist messing with him. Nathaniel snickered a little longer, checking his watch to see they had about a minute before it activated. "Alright, it's go time. Grab on," he said and reached for the slipper, holding it out to him while keeping a grip on the invisibility cloak. Within seconds they were being transported, spinning rapidly until they landed in a dark alley on the cobbled streets of Diagon Alley. Nate got himself together rather quickly and adjusted his backpack. "Well, that wasn't so bad," he said with a grin. They had a few hours before their ride back to Hogsmeade. Plenty of time to strategize... or get out of a bad situation. "How do you wanna do this?"

This little- Izzy usually was the type to tease and joke around. However the outcome of today’s job would impact the rest of his summer and next school year. And it made him a lot less relaxed than usual. Izzy’s eyebrow twitched as he felt sweat drip down his neck. He shuffled to grab the slipper and ‘accidentally’ stepped on Nate’s toes. “Whoops my bad, I didn’t see where I was moving.” Izzy didn't like unnecessary violence but this definitely was necessary.
With that the two boys were teleported into Diagon alley. “Definitely worse.” Izzy felt a little nauseous but he could ignore that. “A muggle place probably would have been easier,” he mumbled to himself. Those didn’t see magic coming. But here they were. “Pick a place, make sure they’ve got no additional security, one of us distracts the shopkeeper and customers while the other fills the bag with the extension charm.” Seems easy enough right?

He shrugged when he said a muggle place would have been easier. Sure, it would have been, but what fun would that have been? Besides, snatching some magical objects was bound to earn them a pretty sickle. Izzy reiterated what their plan was and Nathaniel nodded casually, his cerulean eyes watching the crowds of people pass by the alley, unaware that two kids were hidden down it. "I'll be the distraction," he said as he looked back at the Slytherin. His lips spread into his most charming smile. "No one could resist this smile." Izzy might disagree, but Nate's track record would beg to differ. "We'll hit that old potions shop down the street from Gringotts. Florence there loves me and I know for a fact that her security is subpar." He adjusted his backpack and gestured toward the busy street with his head. "Wear the cloak and follow me."
They passed many shops that would have worked, but Nathaniel was wanting to score some knotgrass and pixie dust. Simple potion ingredients that had... different effects when consumed. They were high in demand, especially with partiers, but there were also some real expensive potion ingredients that would make them a lot of money if they got their sticky little fingers on it. When they were closing in on the shop, his stomach fluttered nervously. He knew that he could perform his end of the job easily, but part of him was worried that Izzy wouldn't know what to grab. Of course, he trusted his nimble fingers to snatch everything without being detected. Well, he mostly trusted him. Putting on that charming smile again, Nathaniel opened the door to the shop and held it open for an additional five seconds before stepping inside and holding his arms out. "Florence!" The elderly witch looked up from the counter with a grin that was missing a few teeth. "Nathaniel!" she rasped out sweetly before moving over to him to fuss over him. "Has your father been keeping you well fed? You know Granny Florence always has some biscuits for you."

Izzy scoffed and followed up with a laugh. “Well you certainly have a sense of humour,” he teased with a shitfaced grin. Giving his friend a slap on the back, he nodded. “Alright, Mr. Irresistible smile, charm their faces off,” he winked and put on the cloak. Izzy’s nickname was Izzy hands after the famous pirate but also because he had the most quiet and quick fingers in Hogwarts.
So he followed quietly after Nathaniel, hidden under the guy’s invisibility cloak. Staying hidden with this would be easy enough as long as he didn’t knock anything over and made sure nobody bumped into him. His goal was to snatch the smallest and most valuable items. The stuff nobody would miss two to three off on a shelf. He’d be able to carry as much as his bag and pockets could hold. He wondered why Nate settled on a store that specialises in potion ingredients. If the guy wanted something specific he should have said so earlier.
Vials of dragon blood always brought in a pretty penny so a couple of those were quickly snatched. ‘Hang in there buddy,’ he thought as his friend had to charm the old lady. Some pixie dust, sure sure. That was when his eyes fell on the jackpot. Acromantula Venom worth at least 200 galleons a quart! For a second his fingers eagerly approached it but then he stopped. If it was worth that much it probably had some security build around it… Was it worth the gamble? Perhaps Nate could figure it out. Now how to draw his attention without getting caught by someone else?

Florence's hands were dusting off his shoulders and pinching his cheeks that were already starting to hurt from smiling so damn wide. It was a blessing and a curse to be so good looking and so charming, but it was one that Nathaniel was willing to bear. His bright eyes briefly moved over to the shelves, noticing Izzy's hand grab some pixie dust before they both disappeared. As they started to move back to the shopkeeper, they caught sight of the Acromantula venom just a few paces from where Izzy was standing. His chest was bubbling with excitement. Jackpot!
He looked back at Florence with a concerned look. "I heard a couple shops down the street had been hit by shoplifters," he said, leveling his gaze on the witch as he picked up a biscuit from the tray she had offered him. "I bet you've had to increase security because of it." Florence hummed sadly and nodded, pointing at the door. "Had to enchant all my ingredients so the alarm will go off if someone leaves the shop with them without me breaking the enchantment," she said with a small sigh. Nathaniel nodded solemnly, his mind working out a plan to get them out of there. "Gotta protect that Acromantula venom, yeah?" Hopefully Izzy would take the hint to grab some.
His eyes landed on a few ingredients on display by the counter he was leaning on and the gears in his head were slowly turning. But how was he going to get Izzy's attention? Suddenly, a thought occurred to him and his brows furrowed as his hand reached out to grab a small bag of ingredients. Nate held the sheer bag close to his face as he inspected it. "Billywig wings in high demand?" he asked curiously, his blue eyes flickering back up to Florence's face. The eldery witch nodded with a smile. "I've sold out twice in the last three months. I suppose people must be in need of a good Laughing Potion." He nodded, his lips turning downward momentarily as he pretended to think about it.
Nate glanced down at his wrist watch and let out a short gasp. "My, look at the time. I better get to my Portkey," he said, backing up toward the door. "Gotta get back to the castle, you know. I've been Busy, Busy, Busy with schoolwork and only stopped in to say hi." He waited until he could feel the air move around him, signaling to him that Izzy was there beside him. "Well, it was good seeing you Florence. Til next time!" He opened the door wide and gave a final wave. Suddenly, a loud cawing sound started going off above the door and Nathaniel looked down at his hand and smacked his forehead with the other. "My bad!" he came further into the shop and set the Billywig wings back down on display. "Completely forgot I had that in my hand. Well, see ya around!" Nate exited the shop and walked down the street.
Once he had gotten far enough away from the shop, Nate ducked into an alley, expecting Izzy to have followed him. When they were hidden from view he reached out and reached out a bit for the cloak, finally finding it and pulling it off his partner. His eyes were bright with glee. "That went well. So, what'd you snag?"

Izzy had to give credit where it was due, Nate kept his end of the deal. It was a ballsy move to speak of robberies right when they were committing one. Of course Izzy already had his eyes on the venom, his concern was getting it out without triggering any security. Until he got a greenlight Izzy focussed on stuffing his bag with other items. Ashwinder eggs, murtlap tentacle and occamy egg the more expensive ingredients for liquid luck were a quick catch. Couldn’t go wrong with that. But if the venom could be picked he didn’t have to worry about upcoming school term’s supplies.
Hearing that all the ingredients were charmed, Izzy saw it as a sign to just smoothly snatch the venom. Then it didn’t matter if it was the jackpot or not if everything was secured.
Upon getting the signal, he decided to stop further thieving and stood right beside Nate. Invisible to everyone else a big grin crept on his face when he noticed what the other was planning. Gotta give credit to those Ravenclaws. They were rather clever. Of course the Billy wings weren’t the only item causing the alarm but nobody but these two knew.
By that time Izzy would be long gone.
Getting away was far as possible, he made sure not to bump into anyone while sticking close to his partner in crime. The slithering sneaky Slytherin also had his part to play. It was hot and sweaty under the cloak but it had been worth every bit of trouble. A big grin beamed on his wet face, hair sticking to his forehead. “We don’t have to pull another heist this summer. We’re golden boys,” he said, hardly being able to contain his excitement as he let the other take a peep into the bag. “Now we have to find someone to sell all this to for just below the market price and voila.”
