February was almost over and you could tell. The weather was warmer than it had been in months and it was clear that spring was just around the corner. Practice had been miserable lately with all the rain they had been getting, but it was all part of his conditioning. He had to get used to playing hard in any kind of weather whether that be rain, sleet, or snow. His new broom fit him like a glove and his training with Sam was really paying off. Noah felt better than he ever did. He was stronger, he was faster, and his mind was crystal clear.
The rain had subsided by the time practice came to an end that Wednesday, finally giving them a break from the downpour that had plagued them the entire evening. Noah flew down to the turf with a bright smile on his lips. As he hopped off his broom, he was greeted to a few of his teammates giving him a pat on the back. He had managed to go the entire scrimmage with only letting in two goals. Sam was smiling proudly at him. Noah felt good. That all changed when a familiar black owl came swooping down to drop a letter in his hands. The rest of his team waved their goodbyes and let him open his letter in peace. He was thankful that he had found his place among them.
He opened the letter and, once he started reading, he wished that he hadn't. His chest tightened as his heart started to race in his chest, his stomach turning so violently he had to rush to the edge of the green before he vomited all over the middle of the pitch. As the contents of his stomach were emptied on the grass, the words his father had written were swirling in his mind. Anger had surged through his veins, a fire ignited within him, the flames licking the lining of his stomach. Resentment pooled on his tongue and he knew he was fucking screwed. Ophelia... he had to tell Ophelia. Noah pushed himself off the wall of the stadium and went back for his broom. He'd go to the locker room, ignoring everyone inside, and changed as quickly as he could before Apparating back home.
The letter had been sent within moments of him arriving and he wasted no time in making his way to Hogsmeade. If he snuck into the Forbidden Forest twice before, he could do it again. As soon as he popped into the village, Noah took off toward the castle, glad the darkness of the night would conceal him from prying eyes. He practically ran to the forest and started to make his way in deeper. She would know where to meet him. There was this tree in a cove where faeries liked to gather, their light illuminating the dark woods. It was where he took her the night of the party.
Noah leaned against the trunk of the tree and watched as the faeries flew about above him. There was a prickling in his eyes that could only mean one thing, but he was determined to keep the tears at bay. He couldn't afford to look weak, not now. Ophelia needed him to be her rock, especially after hearing his news. Noah was so bitterly angry at his father and he vowed he'd find a way to get out of this. After about five minutes, he heard some twigs snapping nearby and he kicked off the tree to look for her. When she came into view, his heart stopped beating for a solid ten seconds. "Hey," he said sadly, trying his best to rally his spirits. When she got closer to him, he reached out to pull her to his chest. Noah held her tightly to him, his eyes closed as he tried to soak in this moment before everything went to shit.

Ophelia hadn’t been having the best day. She hadn’t slept last night, not after she’d woken up from what had felt like a horribly vivid dream, something she now knew was more than likely a vision. She was just glad she hadn’t begun spewing prophecies yet, at least to her own knowledge, though she supposed she wouldn’t actually know if and when she did. It was that lack of sleep that had her so on edge as she went through all her classes, her training, everything in between. She felt ill by the time she was supposed to head down for dinner. Had she even bothered with eating anything of substance today? She wasn’t entirely sure. She couldn’t remember. Things had passed in a daze and she found she wanted nothing more than to curl up under her covers in bed. Her eyes were closed when she heard the tip tap of a birds beak on the window.
Sighing, she sat up and made her way over to the bird, opening the window so she could receive the little letter in its mouth. Without much thought she gave the bird a little pet and opened the letter easily. It was from Noah of course. He was really the only person who sent her letters aside from her parents. She frowned as she read the urgent hand writing asking her to meet him in the woods. Without too much thought she pulled on a jacket, not bothering to change from her pajamas but pulling a knitted shawl over her shoulders as well, just to keep out any potential chill, before slowly but surely making her way into the woods.
Ophelia didn’t know what this was about but she had anxiety churning in her stomach. Something was wrong, that was certain. They didn’t usually meet during the week and not at the castle. But her anxiety wasn’t doing anything to help the overall feeling that she just… didn’t feel right. She was dizzy and tired and her chest ached for a reason she couldn’t grasp. Whatever Noah wanted to talk about it must not be good. maybe in the back of her mind she knew that. Call it a sixth sense. Something bad was about to happen but she didn’t quite know what. The relief she felt when Noah came into few did help her return to her thoughts a little as she wrapped her arms around his torso, her hands fisting in the back of his shirt as she let out a soft sigh.
”Hi….” She began, pulling back a bit to look up at him. Ophelia knew she probably didn’t look her best right now. Paler than usual with dark circles that seemed to be getting worse by the day. But she was a little happier now that Noah was here. ”Is everything okay?”

His heart lurched in his chest as he got a closer look at her, his lips pulling into a slight frown. The bags under her eyes were accentuated by the dark purple that surrounded them, her blue eyes dulled with a steady tiredness he knew plagued her. Noah brought a hand up to her cheek, his thumb sweeping along her pale skin before he ran it through her hair, tucking it behind her ear. His fingers brushed through the length of her hair and he lingered for a moment before speaking, "Better now that I'm here with you." His voice was soft, barely above a whisper, but there was a hint of sadness in his tone. He didn't want to tell her. He didn't want to see her cry. Noah leaned over to press a gentle kiss to her lips. After a few beats, he leaned back. "We better sit down," he said, pulling her to a fallen log nearby.
He would do anything not to have this conversation. He'd give all his wealth, every single possession he had, hell, even his soul to go back to the way it was before he read that bloody letter. Noah hated his father more than he ever did at that moment. Sitting down on the log, Noah pulled her onto his lap and held her close, burying his head in her shoulder. He took a few deep breaths. "I got a letter tonight," he started. "From my father. He's - he's arranged for me to marry someone. Another pureblood." He didn't want to tell her who, but she was going to find out anyway. It was better she hear it from him. "To Mia King." Noah raised his head to look her in the eye, tears brimming in his eyes. "He said the wedding won't happen until she's graduated. Ophelia -" he paused, bringing his hand to her cheek again. "I promise you I will do everything I can to get out of this."

Something… was very wrong. She’d been right about that much it seemed. It was getting easier to trust her gut instinct on these things. Ophelia returned the kiss that she was given but frowned when Noah pulled away saying that they should sit. It was hard to explain the feelings that followed, like the world sort of fell away and gave way to a more dream like state. She wasn’t about to have a vision, but it felt achingly familiar to when she was having them in her dreams. Waking up to things not feeling completely real. With a frown she settled into his lap and waited to hear him speak, his head resting on her shoulder she brought a hand up to gently stroke it through her hair, not wanting to interrupt the momentum of what he was building up to say and frankly, not knowing if she could even use her words with how she felt at the moment.
That was until the metaphorical bomb was dropped and she felt that familiar tug at her consciousness, like she might fall asleep. She was glad she was sitting for the moment. Her frown only deepened when he told her who it was too because of course. Of course! It had to be Mia. Of all the people in the school it had to be the one person that Ophelia had any sort of qualms with. That angry girl who hated her for reasons Ophelia couldn’t really comprehend. She wasn’t looking forward to the odd gloating she was certain would come the next time Ophelia saw the Slytherin girl. She hadn’t even realized she’d started crying until she felt a tear drip down her chin and fall into her lap, her hand trembling as she moved to wipe a fallen tear from Noah’s cheek, before setting her own hand on top of his that was on her face, sniffling quietly. What was she even supposed to say to any of this? It didn’t feel like it was going to be okay, so she didn’t want to say that and honestly she felt like she was going to burst. So overwhelmed from her lack of sleep and dragging tiredness she felt like something in her was about to give. The dizziness was sudden and hit her like a train, she didn’t realize she was leaning until her eyes fluttered and instead of looking at Noah she was face first in his chest her body gone limp

His dark eyes searched her bright ones, his thumb sweeping away the tears that he could. He felt a tear of his own fall from his eye and she wiped it away. Noah hated that this was happening, hated that his father pawned him off like this, hated that it was affecting Ophelia. If his mother was still alive... he knew it was no good thinking about that because she was gone and his father could do whatever he pleased. Ophelia's eyes fluttered shut and Noah's eyebrows lifted in concern as she fell limp into his chest. "Fia?" His voice was heavy with emotion as he tried to lift her head. He gave her a shake, but still she was unconscious. "Fia..." He leaned forward and rested his forehead against hers and waited until she started to stir. It felt like an eternity before she was opening her eyes again. "Are you okay?"

Opening her eyes again to see Noah was a blessing and a curse. She felt dazed, like she was stuck underwater. It wasnt quite like she didn’t know what happened, she’d been having moments recently, when she stood up too fast or felt to overwhelmed, it was like the corners of her vision started to tunnel. It just seemed that this time it pulled all the way through. She frowned at him, narrowing her eyes a bit as he came back into full focus, shaking her head a bit. ”I don’t know…” she murmured, one of her hands coming up to grip his upper arm to steady herself. ”I don’t feel right.” It was the best she could do. She thought in the back of her mind that maybe she needed to lay down for a bit. But not here… and not in the dorms of Hogwarts at the moment. Maybe she should send a better off to her mother.

Her lashes fluttered as she started to open her eyes and Noah's hands came up to her cheeks, cupping her face. Those baby blue eyes narrowing at him as she came to. His thumbs swept along her skin, his dark eyes full of worry as they flickered over her face. A band tightened around his heart while his stomach turned, knowing that his news had overwhelmed her. She started speaking, telling him she didn't feel right, and he wrapped his arms around her shoulders to pull her against his chest. "I'm so sorry, Fia," he whispered, his voice cracking under the weight of his emotions. His hands came to her arms as he moved her so he could look into her eyes again. "What can I do? What do you need?" He needed to know what he was supposed to do right now. She wasn't okay and it broke his heart to see. He would do anything to see her smile again.

What even could be done right now? She was so overwhelmed she couldn’t even tell what emotions that she was feeling. It was odd for her, she rarely felt so strongly or overwhelmed that she couldn’t piece together exactly what she was feeling but right now she felt sick, her head hurt and she was incredibly dizzy still. She rested her head against Noah’s chest and sniffled a bit as she wiped at a stray tear, shrugging her shoulders a bit. ”I need to talk to my mom.” Ophelia said eventually. Her mother might not know exactly what to do but she knew the comfort it would bring to be around her rather than the cold of the castle. Could she even actually leave for a few days? She had no idea how any of this worked. ”Are you okay?… with… all of this?”

Noah ran a comforting hand along the curve of her spine, holding her snugly against him. He found his own comfort with her in his arms, though the comfort he felt was being overpowered by his concern for Ophelia. She was quiet for a while, Noah continuing to rub her back while he waited for her answer. Finally, she said she needed her mum and, despite himself, he felt a sharp tug on his heart. He needed the same, but he'd never get the chance to talk to her again. Noah shoved the feeling down and focused his attention on Ophelia, bending his head down to place a soft kiss to the top of hers. His mind was trying to work through a way to get her to her mum, but if he showed up at Hogwarts with her for a second time they both might get into trouble. He hated that he wasn't able to be at school with her anymore.
He almost wanted to laugh. She was too good, too sweet for him, but he could admit that was part of the draw she had. Here she was fainting after hearing her boyfriend was engaged to someone else and she was worried how he was feeling. Noah brought his hand to her hair, stroking it as he considered his answer. "I'm angry," he said honestly after a few moments. "I'm planning on telling my dad he can shove it, but I don't know what good it will do." He was an adult, his father shouldn't be able to control his life like this. "All I know is that I'm not marrying her."

Gods above, she really didn’t know what to say to that. Instead of saying anything really she just wrapped him up in a hug, resting her head in the crops of his neck as she sniffled, wiping another stray tear. ”Shes never going to leave me alone now.” Mia already didn’t like her and she couldn’t really imagine the bout of torment she was about to endure after this all came to light. She didn’t want to face her or anyone else at the school. Not until she was feeling a bit more steady on her feet and it had been weeks since she felt okay. But from the looks of it they were both exhausted. She felt bad that he was here trying to comfort her while he had so much going on as well.

The resolve started to build within in him, strengthening with each sniffle he heard from her, and he knew that no matter what he was not going to marry anyone else. There was only one girl out there for him and she was burying her face in the cusp of his neck. Noah tilted his head so it was resting against hers, but her words ignited a fire within him. "She's not going to say another word to you," he promised. He knew Mia was a bully from every experience he had with her, and he had many since he dated her best friend for a while. They would have to get together soon to talk about this and Noah was going to make sure she left Ophelia alone. "I don't think she wants this either." Ivy and Noah were still close and he knew that Mia cared more about Ivy than she let on.

”I doubt she does.” she murmured, wiping her eyes again as she relaxed into his chest letting out a small sigh. She adored Noah, really she did. He always made her feel safe when she otherwise felt like she couldn’t be safe. But she didn’t know what to do now. Could she even go home? That’s all she really wanted was to spend a few days at home with her family. That would help wouldn’t it? It usually helped. Maybe Noah could stay with her for a day or two. She just really didn’t want to be alone right now and she especially didn’t want to have to walk back into the school after this.

Noah breathed a sigh out of his nose and relaxed into her, relishing the feeling of holding her close. No matter what, he wasn't leaving Ophelia. He didn't care that it would become public knowledge that he was engaged to someone else, he was staying by her side. Of course, he'll have to do what he can to maintain his image, but he's not going to stop writing to her and he would figure out ways where he could see her. The reality of what this engagement meant for them finally set in and he felt his shoulders sag. Well, he thought to himself, he just needed to end this arrangement as quickly as he could. Let his father deal with the ramifications of losing that deal with the Kings. "I don't want to leave this spot," he admitted, nuzzling his head into hers. As soon as they left, their entire relationship is going to change and he didn't want to lose out on a second of alone time with her.

“I’d say we could run away but I’d miss my family… and your siblings.” They all practically lived together at this point. The only thing really stopping them was the fact that Lydia, Ryder, and herself were all still at Hogwarts. Everyone came to her house for any holidays or breaks and her parents had already started filling the spare rooms with things for both Ryder and Lydia respectively. It was one of the many reasons that she loved her family so much. How willing they were with no words really needing to be said between all of them to take in her friends and their family. “I suppose the family that we all have together.” As.. serious as that sounded. She rested her head against Noah’s chest with a sigh. She still felt dizzy, but not enough that she thought he was going to pass out again, just enough for her to not want to open her eyes again quite yet.

Warmth swirled in his chest at the idea of running away with Ophelia. All he needed was her and he was sure he could deal with living in the woods somewhere where she could pick all the mushrooms and flowers and rocks that she wanted. Maybe they could find a way to suppress her visions and they could just live happily ever after in some enchanted forest or some shit. It sounded like a real nice dream. That is until she mentioned family. There was a sharp pull at his heart as he thought about leaving his brother and sister or taking Fia away from her parents. Maybe he needed them just as much as she did. And he could never imagine breaking Ophelia and Lydia apart.
A soft smile touched his lips as she said that it was the family they all have together, a strange tingling sensation traveling up his body followed by the most pleasant warmth he had ever felt. He knew she just meant his siblings and her parents and nothing more than that, but the thought was stirring around in his mind. Was it too soon to be thinking about a family with her? Probably. Most definitely. But with his future so uncertain, he was thinking more and more about what he wanted his life to look like. He wanted to keep playing Quidditch, he knew that, but when he thought about what his life would like he always imagined Ophelia at his side. He knew that he loved her and that he would do anything for her. And maybe now he was realizing that he wanted her forever. "Yeah, we couldn't leave them behind," he said sadly, leaning down to press a kiss to her head. "I love you, Fia."
