Late Afternoon There were few things Eric loved more than new books, one of those things was old books, not like, used or anything, but old as in first editions. Though used one could be nice, if they were old enough to be considered vintage. He was very opinionated about books, how old they were, and in what condition they were kept. To be completely fair to book though, Eric was just opinionated in general. As opinionated as Eric could be he wasn't particularly choosy about the types of books he read. Of course, quality could be important, but he'd try any sort of book, he had his preferences, usually stuff of the philosophical or poetic, and he disliked science fiction. So, when Eric walk into the book shop and saw a table of 'Staff Pics' he started picking up all of them, one by one, reading the dust covers and reviews, and added each one to the growing stack in his arms. Personally he wasn't sure that he'd like Alisi's pick, but Eric grabbed it all the same. Now Ruth's? Her book seemed like the sort of thing Eric could enjoy.

He hadn't come to Diagon Alley since Diana's owl had gotten sick. That felt like ages ago. These days, day and night seemed to run together, making time irrelevant. Mael had come into town in search of more books on curses and how to subdue them through potion making. He'd tried Knockturn because that's where all dark secrets lie, but with no luck, he'd had to search elsewhere. He intended to talk to the owner, but as he stepped into Flourish and Blotts, he came across the familiar face of a fellow Professor. Mael could have just as easily avoided the man, seeing as though Eric had his hands full; quite literally at that. Besides, he had little time to waste on idle chatter. Then again, he could probably use some normalcy right now. Mael gave his head a small shake, instantly regretting the action. His head started to swim and he had to take a moment to gather himself. He really needed sleep. A full eight hours would be great, but he didn't have that luxury right now. Tucking his hands into his jacket pockets, he casually started towards Eric. "Professor Anderson," he greeted. "Are you a bibliophile," he asked with a small smile.

Turning Judas' 'Staff Pic' over in his hand Eric clicked his tongue in thought. Didn't he already own that book? Thinking it over Eric was pretty sure that he had it, but not certain. Mentally Eric argued with himself about buying the book, was the risk of owning two copies really so bad? . . . . Maybe, Eric was running out of space in his house, which had been described to him as a 'Library with a bed'.
Torn from his musings by his own name Eric glanced around for a second before his eyes landed on Mael Gauthier. Like Eric himself Mael had studied at Beauxbatons, personally Eric missed speaking french, it was one of the first languages he'd learned. By comparison english was clunky, and still unfamiliar. "Please, we are not at work right now, call me Eric." He said smiling warming at his fellow professor. Knowing that Mael would understand him Eric spoke in french. "Perhaps, would that be such a bad thing? The book in Eric's hand was half forgotten, and Mael's comment had made him a touch self conscious of the books he was already holding. He put Judas' suggested book down. Now that he was looking at Mael, really focusing on him, he noticed how tired the other man looked, as if he need a week of sleep. Eric did not feel close enough to mention anything about it. "What of you? What has brought you to Flourish and Blotts today?"

The familiar language of French touched his ears and Mael couldn't help but feel some weight lift from his shoulders. French reminded him of home, and although he was not homesick, there was comfort. The light that had been vacant only moments before, returned to his eyes. "My apologies. It's a forced habit," he admitted, replying in French. It made him happy to do so. Mael didn't often meet his coworkers outside of work. Anita, Keelin, and Elsie were the only three he purposely met with outside of the castle. They were also the only three he ever called by first name. He supposed the formalities were a bit vexing. It lumped them all into one category, robbing them of their personality outside of being Hogwarts Professors.
His apology was followed by an apologetic look as Eric put the book down. "The pen is mightier than the sword on many accounts," he responded. "Do you have an extensive library," he asked. Or was Eric just bored and needed something to occupy whatever free time he possessed? When the question was directed back at him, Mael remained casual. "I'm doing a bit of research. I figured a bookstore of all places would be the proper place to start." He motioned to the shelves of books. "And the owner does special orders, in the event I don't find what I'm looking for."
