It was no secret that Rose had been getting into a bit of trouble lately. There were rumors murking about that she was going to lose her captaincy and, well, the redhead had quickly put a stop to them. They weren't going to demote her over a couple of detentions. She just had to make sure she stayed out of trouble for the rest of the year and things would just be peachy. Rose worked her team harder this last practice, just to make sure they understood she wasn't going anywhere. Their next match wasn't until may, but it was against Ravenclaw and they were proving to be tough competition this year. Plus she was dating Ravenclaw's seeker and many thought she might throw the game in favor of him - Rose planned on proving them just how wrong they were.
The witch flew down to the green with the Quaffle in hand as practice came to a close. The bludgers were still flying about, but Davies had caught the snitch and that was one less thing they had to worry about. Rose placed the Quaffle in the trunk and stood by as Davies put the snitch back. Her green gaze lifted to see Wash and Rory catch the bludgers. Wash had been a little distant since Rose and Finch had gone public with their relationship, but she was sure he would get over it soon. It wasn't like the two of them were ever together... still, Rose felt some kind of responsibility toward the younger lion. He was her teammate, after all, and if his playing started to be effected then they really had a problem. Maybe it would be better if she cleared the air. She waited until the beaters brought the bludgers to the trunk before she grabbed hold of Wash's wrist and ask him to stay behind. The rest of the team packed up and took their leave and Rose turned to him. "Is everything okay?" she asked him, as a friend more than anything. She cared about him, but she was mostly concerned about the team. "Do we need to, like, talk about it or something?"

Between extra practice -both with and without Nathaniel-, running afoul of Carmichael, and staying up late working on assignment he'd meant to do earlier in the day Dorian was usually busy with something or other outside of classes and meals. And when he wasn't busy he was usually tired more oft than not. No one, not even Dorian, could say if the young lion was intentionally keeping himself busy or not. Honestly it was hard to say because either way, busy or not, it seemed like most of Dorians friends were busy with relationships. He didn't begrudge them this, if anything he was happy for them.
At least he thought he was.
It was just a little hard being happy for all of them when he was lonely, when he felt like he was getting left behind. It was bad enough being the younger than most of his friends, he already always felt just a little bit like he was getting left behind. Seeing Rose didn't help ease the feeling, which he hated because Rose was his friend first, no matter what else they did, she was his friend, period. That had been their agreement from the start. So why was he feeling like. . . . like this?
Rose grabbed Dorian, held him back and it made him just a bit nostalgic for all times she used to pull him somewhere privet after a match when both of them were still running hot and needed an outlet.
Then the feeling past and suddenly he felt less nostalgic and just felt ambushed. Why was Rose keeping him back? Surely it wasn't his playing, not with all the extra hours he'd been putting in on the pitch. So what did she want to talk about that couldn't be said around the rest of the team?
Frowning slightly Dorian wondered what she was getting at. "Yeah? It's all aces, why? Should it not be okay?" He returned her question for two. That was double return, better than any bank.
'Ahhhh,' Dorian thought realization dawning on him. 'so it's about that isn't it?' It was kind of her, Rose really cared about her friends, always had. At the moment though Dorian sort of wished that she'd care a bit less. "Dun know Rose, do we?" Again, Dorian returned her question with a question. That probably sounded cheeky tho so he tried to soften with a smile even if some small part of him didn't feel it as much as he thought he ought to. "I mean, there isn't much ta talk 'bout is there? We both agreed, friends first yeah."
Notes: No need to apologise <3 I don't think it's bad at all

Rose and Wash had a lot of fun in the past, but she wanted to be clear and let him know that it was decidedly in the past. She was never one to let someone down gently, but she did care about him and, well, maybe her relationship with Finch had softened her a bit. So, she wasn't going to come right out and say it. Wash assured her everything was fine and Rose raised a manicured brow in response. When she asked him if they needed to talk about it, it seemed to click for him what she was talking about. He returned the question to her and said there wasn't much to talk about. Her expression softened and a small smile started to pull on her lips. "Right," she affirmed. "I'm just trying to make sure there are no hard feelings or anything." No one expected Rose Kelly to be in a relationship and she was sure that there were a few guys out there who were pissed it wasn't them. Callum, for one, had been giving her death glares since it came out she and Finch were together. Wash hadn't given her any reason to think that he was upset, but they kind of had something special. She's been snogging him after practices for a couple of years now and, well, that was more than most got.

Clearly Rose didn't believe Wash, which made it hard for Wash to convince both of them that everything was just lovely. Damn Rose, and damn Wash's shite acting. Was is really acting? Was he lying? Wash would like to think that he was being honest but the look Rose gave him and Wash second guessing himself.
Oh sweet Merlin save him now! Rose was giving Wash a soft look, she never did that. He'd seen her happy, mad, excited, annoyed, victorious, crushed by defeat, and thoroughly snogged. But this soft look was new and he was pretty sure Finch had something to do with it. He hated it, being on the receiving end of the look, he meant that part, not the Finch part. Was that a lie? Damn Rose, Wash wasn't sure anymore.
Snorting Wash rolled his eyes, she was making a bigger deal of this than it was. "Don't worry Rose, we both knew what this was from the start." He assured her, "You're worrying too much Captain," he punched her lightly and playfully on the shoulder with a smile that felt oddly. . . . not sad but something adjacent to it maybe? Wash wasn't sure, he'd never spent any time thinking about his feeling before so now he was finding himself short on words. But he wasn't sad about all this.
'Wasn't he?' some small unwelcome voice whispered like a devil on Wash's shoulder.
He ignored the voice forcefully, damn near aggressively.
"It's just, I don't know, odd maybe? We used to snog after matches all the time, so it's different, you know?" Wash crossed his arms, leaning back against a wall while he tried to explain feelings he himself didn't understand.

Rose nearly laughed when he lightly punched her in the arm. Was this supposed to convince her things were peachy? She kind of hated that she put him in this position to begin with, but no one was more surprised than herself when she fell for Finch. It didn't even occur to her that she'd want to be in a relationship one day. Rose was not a disloyal person, even when she was snogging multiple people at once, because there was no expectation of fidelity. But this was a whole new ballgame for her. She didn't want anyone other than Finch, but she could admit there were parts of her old life that she was going to miss. Snogging Wash under the bleachers was part of that.
He started to open up a bit about it and Rose nodded along. Yeah, she could see how it's odd. Hell, it was odd for her, too. Instead of running to Wash after a win, she'd be running to Finch. While she was happy about the change, it was weird not defaulting to her teammate. "No, I totally get it. It's weird for me, too." She chewed on the corner of her lip as she considered her next words. "This probably isn't going to help matters, but you'll always have a spot in my heart, you know? I mean, I didn't snog anyone nearly as long as I did you." Rose smiled. "You're definitely good at it." But Finch was better, though she didn't say that part out loud. "Anyway, I just wanted to, like, clear the air or whatever."

Jaw tighter than it had any reason to be Wash reminded himself that Rose was his friend first and that he was happy that she was happy with Finch even if it meant they weren't going to be snogging anymore. Which was a shame because he had always loved the way Rose looked after they'd spent an unreasonable amount of time making out.
Nodding along Wash listen, a slightly sad smile on his face. "Yeah, just gotta get used to it. We had been hooking up for a long time, so just not used to it yet." Then Rose said something that both gutted Wash, but also made him feel strangely better? It was a complex feeling, Wash didn't have a lot of experience with those. He kind of hated all the practice he'd been getting lately. "You know what Rose? I feel the same way, mostly because you're my Captain, but still." He joked, actually laughing at his own need to lighten up a necessary and serious conversation. "It's okay Rose, you can consider the air cleared." Wash assured her.

It still hurt her to know that she was hurting people she cared about, but that's the name of the game, isn't it? She hadn't expected to go through this without a little bit of pain. Rose offered a sad smile of her own as he explained they just had to get used to it. Her exclusive relationship with Finch was still relatively new, even though she had stopped snogging anyone else when they ran into each other before Christmas break. At least she had some recommendations for anyone looking for a snog.
Her heart warmed a bit when he said he felt the same way and part of her wanted to wrap her arms around him and give him a tight hug, but she decided against it. It wouldn't be fair to Wash for her to do that and give him mixed signals. A bright smile pulled at her lips and she let out a soft chuckle at his joke, glancing down at her feet for a moment before she lifted her gaze to look at him again. Rose nodded solemnly when he said the air was cleared and, suddenly, she felt really awkward. "Wanna... wanna walk back to the castle with me?" Maybe they could get some practice in of being just friends.

Seeing a solemn look on Rose's face just hurt. Out of habit he reached out for her, Wash was so used their old dynamic, it was going to take some time for Wash to adjust. He needed to figure out what their new dynamic was going to look like. Old habit needed to be unlearned, thankfully, Wash remembered that little fact before he did something really stupid. For half a second he froze, hesitating as he realised what he'd been about to do. But, pulling his hand back felt too awkward to survive so Wash shifted, adjusted, and went to pull Rose into a hug. A friendly hug, the sort of hug he'd give anyone on the team. . . . anyone expect Poppy. Wash didn't have a deathwish afterall.
The offer to walk back was just a bit stilted, just enough to be noticable. Wash kind of hated it. "Always Capt'," Wash gave Rose the best, cockiest, smile he could. Sure Wash was going to miss snogging Rose, but he'd rather have her as a friend than not at all.

Her eyes widened as Wash started to reach out for her, wondering what the hell he was doing. Her heart lurched in her chest for a moment as he stood frozen, but her body relaxed when he wrapped her up in a hug. Rose's arms came up to wrap around him. This was awkward, she thought to herself as he pulled back. She hated that it was awkward. Why did things have to be so weird? Wash was a great guy and she didn't want to lose him as a friend. She guessed that it must not be easy to be in his shoes. Rose Kelly chose someone and it wasn't him. That's gotta hurt a bit.
Rose smiled warmly at him as he threw her a cocky grin. "Good," she said simply, bending over to pick up her broom in one hand as she reached to grab one of the handles of the trunk with her other hand. "Help me out with this?" she asked him, jerking her arm to gesture to the trunk she was holding half-way up. They would take the trunk to the closet where they'd shut and lock it up tight. "I heard about the potion incident," she said as they started walking back to the castle. I mean, of course she did he couldn't play Quidditch for like a week afterward. "That must have been annoying."

Pushing the awkward feelings away and shoving them deep down with a mental rug thrown over them, Wash tried to sweep his feelings under a metaphorical rug. It was probably something he ought to deal with but Dorian was only a teenager and thus he had the luxury of not being required to participate in any sort of introspection. That was something he could put off until his early thirties at least. While Rose's back was turned -when she was bending down to pick up the trunk- Dorian waved one hand in the air, attempting to wave away the voice of his own inner monologue.
Unfortunately it would only give him momentary reprieve because one couldn't escape themself forever.
"Ahhhh, now I see why you really wanted to talk to me," Wash joked with a chuckle as he helped Rose with the trunk. "You just wanted to make sure I'd be around to help you clean up." He wasn't at all bother though, Dorian was almost always willing to help out his friends with most anything he could.
Just a bit embarrassed Dorian scratched the back of his neck with his free hand. "Yeah, not my best moment," the boy huffed, keeping an embarrassed blush away by sheer force of will. It even mostly worked. "The worst part was the concussion, even with magic my head was still scrambled for days!"

She couldn't help but roll her eyes playfully at him, her lips spread into a wide grin as a laugh flowed out of her. This is why she liked Wash. He was able to move past awkward situations with a great sense of humor, never failing to make her laugh. She was glad she wouldn't get to miss out on having him as a friend now that they weren't snogging anymore. "Yes, that's exactly what I kept you for," she said playfully. She had brought up the potions accident and Dorian appeared a bit sheepish. Her brows raised and she pressed her lips together, agreeing that the concussion was the worst part of it. Rose couldn't afford to lose a Beater for weeks like that. "You should be more careful," she said seriously. "One more concussion and we're out of the running for the Cup this year." Was she concerned about Wash? Yes, of course she was. She wanted him to be careful for his own sake just as much as hers, but what kind of Captain would she be if she didn't tell it straight.

Laughing with his Captain and one of his closest friends, made cleaning up actually fun. Sure there was heavy equipment, sweaty gear because someone always forgot something, but it was fun. Hanging out with Rose was always fun though, even if making out was off the table for them now.
Things were changing and Dorian could totally roll with it. They were still friends, still made sense as friends, that was all that mattered at the end of the day. When Rose scolded Wash though it didn't feel like things had changed. "Come one Rose, just one concussion won't ruin our chances this year." He assured her with complete faith. Mostly in himself and Rose, but the rest of their team was pretty good too.

Things might be changing some, but there will be things that will always be the same and Rose's passion for Quidditch is one of those things. It had been her life since she was a young toddler and she worked damn hard to improve herself and her team so that, one day, they could earn themselves offers on pro teams. That was what she wanted, anyway. She didn't know about the rest of her teammates, but she wasn't going to go easy on them. Rose threw him a look when he said one concussion wouldn't ruin their chances. "You're right," she said. "One won't. But two, three?" She looked at him seriously for a moment. "I'm not losing the cup to Ivy Lennox. I'm just telling you to be careful." That was all she was going to say on it.
They walked along a little in silence for a few moments, the crickets' chorus the only sound hanging on the air. There was something else she heard regarding that potions incident. Honestly, it wasn't Rose's business. It's not like she had any say on who Wash decides to hang out with, but she was worried for him. "I heard you spent a whole night talking to Mia King," she said tentatively, her green gaze glancing over at him. "You do know she's Hogwarts' biggest bully, right?"

Merlin help him rose was worrying over nothing in Dorian's mind, she sounded worse than his own mother. She'd even sent Dorian a scathing letter. But, he knew it came because she cared, both of them did though he supposed Rose cared more about them winning their quidditch matches than his mother did. "And I won't let us lose Rosie O'Donnell," he assured her teasingly. "I'm fine yeah? Just had a headache for a few days."
it was like a magic spell, or maybe a little like getting hit by train, Dorian stumbled, just one miss step, and his face went as scarlet as his quidditch robes. All it took was hearing her name. "Oh?" He was trying to be sublet, but they both knew that Rose knew Dorian well enough to see right through him. When Rose insulted Mia he frowned at her, "No, that would Poppy, and I know you've met her, she's in our house." Dorian was quick to point out. It would be an understatement to say that Dorian wasn't exactly a fan. "Mia is. . . . I know, she fun to talk to, easy actually. She made the whole 'having to stay in the Hospital Wing' thing bearable." The blushing Lion actually turned impossibly red, the flush extending up to the tips of his ears, down the back of his neck and even over his collarbone and towards his chest. Yes, there was no way for Dorian to hide his blushing short of sticking his head in an oven.

Her nose scrunched up with distaste at the poorly chosen nickname, her green eyes rolling slightly. He said he was fine and she didn't doubt him, she just knew him to be a bit reckless at times. She knew that she sounded like a nagging mother or something, but her team was important to her and winning that Quidditch cup was all she was focusing on. Rose didn't answer him, she just simply nodded her understanding and kept walking.
Manicured brows raised curiously as Dorian stumbled over his feet, his face turning into a deep red color at just the mention of the Slytherin. Her painted lips pressed together as she watched his reaction to her question. He quickly brought up Poppy Carmichael. Okay, that was definitely fair. The younger lion had a habit of picking fights with pretty much the entire school and she certainly didn't care about anyone other than herself and her twin brother. But Mia was just as confrontational, only she was more venomous than Poppy. Poppy was more abrasive. Wash kept going on about Mia and Rose's jaw dropped a little in disbelief. "Oh my gods, you like her!" She gave him a concerned look. "Dorian, she will tear your heart out and stomp on it in front of you just for fun, just because she can," she told him with a frown. "I've never heard someone say she was fun or easy to talk to before."
