The forbidden forest was a strange place, filled with a hundred mysteries and a hundred more dangers-- or whatever. Nadia had heard the rumors about the Forbidden Forest and she believed approximately zero of them. She told annoying younger kids that she'd feed them to the Acromantula's in the Forbidden Forest, or she'd tell the wolf pack that notoriously resided in the woods to take care of misbehaving, unruly children. They were just tales Nadia told to get the irritating little buggers off her back. They weren't real. The Forbidden Forest probably hadn't been a danger place since the olden days... like 1980 or something. But it made for a quiet place to escape the chaos of Hogwarts-- and Merlin had it been chaotic recently. It was like every student and professor was off their rocker. Something about the month of February had turned everyone bloody insane. Maybe it was the leap year. She doubted it.
The fifth year hummed to herself as she traveled the snow covered path, appreciating the ambiance of the Forest. It had always felt a bit strange, unsettling even. But those were human emotions meant to prevent people from daring. Nadia Wylde wouldn't let anything stop her from daring. A branch covered in snow crunched under her feet and a flock of birds that had yet to migrate-- idiot birds-- took flight, shaking snow and ice from the trees above. "Bloody crows!" She exclaimed, covering her head from the falling debris. The snow saturated her sweater and she groaned. Just great. And people were scared of the Forbidden Forest? Tch. It was just filled with pesky birds.
As she continued down the path, the foliage became thicker and thicker, filtering out any rays of sun that wanted to break through the thick brush. Patches of grass stopped popping up several steps ago, but Nadia didn't mind. Brightly colored mushroom and plants that thrived in the darkness popped up, decorating the dim forest floor in all type of flora. Nadia didn't care too much for Herbology so she didn't care too much to identify if they were magical or not. She was walking to get away from Hogwarts, not to remind herself of the upcoming assignments that were surely being sent her way come Monday.
Further in the forest, Nadia heard a 'crunch' which caused her to stop in her tracks. Wait. That surely was a deer or some other kind of creature.... But she had gone a bit deeper into the forest than she'd initially expected. She took a step forward, attempting to see what was in there. A chill crept up her spine, causing her to shiver. Another crunch. Another. As the crunches and cracks continued, a creature came into view-- a giant, very disturbing looking... spider?! Shit. Shit. It was a bloody Acromantula.

The Forbidden Forest was not a haunt that Mia frequented. It was dangerous and dark and gross; there was more intrigue inside the castle. The last thing she wanted to do was ruin her heels in the thick foliage. However, since becoming an Animagus, Mia has found herself drawn to the dark forest as a means of escape. The witch would transform just outside the entrance and explore. It was comforting, the double heartbeat she felt whenever she transformed and the feeling of slithering along the forest floor. Most of the time she wouldn't go further than the creature sanctuary before she felt satisfied, but that evening she had gotten a letter from her parents. A letter she had been dreading since she started at Hogwarts. They were looking to arrange her marriage.
Everyone in the King family had their marriages arranged to secure their blood purity. Camilla had been married off to an Avery and Darius married a Black. Now, it appeared, it was her turn. Her father assured her that she wouldn't have to marry them until after she graduated Hogwarts, but they were starting to look for an eligible match for her. Mia hated it. She didn't want to marry some bozo she had never met - hell, she didn't even know if she wanted to get married. She was fine being her own person. Since she was a child, she knew that she didn't want to end up like her older sister, married off and made to push out more children. There was so much more to life than that and, if she was being honest, she didn't want to be like her sister in any capacity. Mia slithered further into the forest as her mind tried to work out a way to get out of this. The trees grew thicker the further she went and instead of sliding through patches of grass, she was weaving through mushrooms and other plants. Maybe she should turn back before she ran into something real.
No sooner had that thought crossed her mind when she came upon another student. Mia recognized the mop of coily hair as Nadia. What the hell was she doing down here? She was about to turn around and head back to the castle when the ground shook beneath her, a crunch sounding in the still air. Mia's tongue flicked out as she tasted the air, her beady little eyes watchful as she waited for whatever that was to emerge. When she saw the very large and very hairy leg appear, she made the decision to transform back into her human form. "What the fuck are you standing there for?" she asked Nadia, moving to grab her wrist and pull her back. "Fucking run!"
She could have left in her Animagus form - it was a helluva lot quicker than running on two legs - but she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she let her housemate fall victim to a literal Acromantula. Mia ran as quickly as she could, pulling Nadia along. The witch glanced back to see the spider fucking chasing them. This was not happening. "I swear to the Gods, Nadia, this is the stupidest shit you've ever done," she called to her as they made their way through the foliage. "What the fuck did you think was going to happen if you went that deep in the forest? So fucking stupid!" Now they both were going to die because Mia couldn't leave the dumb bitch behind. Mia glanced back once more, but that was her biggest mistake because she missed the large, overgrown root that she consequently tripped on. Mia fell flat on her face and groaned, but struggled to get back up again.

Nadia gazed in a mixture of horror and wonderment at the Acromantula. It was a creature of magnificent size and stature-- how could something that she associated with being so small and harmless eventually evolve into the terror that was the Acromantula. She supposed it was her fault for venturing so deep into the Forbidden Forest but she didn't regret it. She could outrun that thing a hundred times-- she hoped. Taking a few steps back, she nearly yelped when something grabbed her arm. Fuck! It was Mia King. What the hell was she doing in the forest? Giving her housemate a look, she quickly stumbled after her as the Acromantula picked up the pace. She quickly shrugged the snakes arm off, taking her time in keeping a steady jog with Mia. Nadia almost laughed triumphantly, when she noticed the giant spider was gaining on them. FUCK! "This is not the stupidest shit I've ever done!" Nadia quickly exclaimed at Mia's ridicule, uncaring if they were running for their lives or not. "What the fuck are you doing out here anyways?! It's creepy as shite to follow someone into the woods and call them stupid, you dumbass." She shot back at the girl, watching as she tumbled. Shit.
With wide eyes and a quick instinct, Nadia fished her wand out of her pocket. Waving her arm in the air, she murmured the words as quickly as she could. "Protegeo totalum!" The Acromantula, which had almost reached the girls found an impossible barrier to cross. Nadia was still, her body rigid and full of fear. "Fuck..." She let out a small sigh, replacing her wand in her waistband and quickly rushing to Mia. "Are you okay?" Nadia asked quickly, whatever sarcastic comeback or scolds she had. She was only a girl worried about her classmate. "Can you walk? Is your face alright? I'm great at Charms--But I'm not sure how long this charm will hold the Acromantula.... We've got to figure out a plan and fast."

Mia couldn't help but roll her eyes as they ran for their lives. The snake looked over at her housemate with her brows raised. "That's not a fucking flex!" What could be stupider than exploring the forest until you ran into, and provoked, a fucking Acromantula? Mia didn't want to know what she considered her stupidest stunt. "Girl, you better get your head out of your ass - I wasn't following you. And it's none of your fucking business what I was doing out here!" This was so fucking dumb to be arguing while they were being hunted down by a huge ass, sentient spider. Couldn't Nadia just be grateful that Mia didn't leave her to die? Like damn.
Her heart was pounding in her chest as she fell and ate dirt, the adrenaline coursing through her veins as she prepared to fucking be eaten. Nadia busting out a protection spell surprised her and she used the time she bought her to push herself up. "Do I look okay?" she asked, glaring up at her with dark eyes. Mia quickly wiped the dirt off her face, inwardly cringing at how fucked up her makeup must look right now. Yes, she was that shallow. "I'm being chased by a fucking Acromantula and I just fucking fell," she irritatingly pointed out before rising to her feet. Nadia was right about one thing, though. They needed to come up with a plan and quickly. "There's a spell to repel spiders. It should work on this fucker." She wracked her brain for the incantation and, luckily for her, it came to her just as the protection spell wore off. Mia whipped out her wand and thrusted it toward the Acromantula. "Arania Exumai!" She shouted, a white beam flashing from the tip of her wand and hitting the spider dead in the face. It flew back several paces. "Keep running!" Mia didn't wait for her before she started tearing up the path leading toward the castle.

There were people that Nadia couldn't tolerate and she didn't think Mia was on that list, but the girl kept complaining and it was becoming abundantly clear to the Slytherin that Mia was not her kind of person. Did she understand how whiny and pathetic she sounded? Nadia couldn't help but roll her eyes, even as they were fighting off the giant spider. "There's no reason for us to be fucking fighting when there's a giant spider that wants to eat us whole. Now can you please shut up about all this dumbs shite before it gets through and you have something real to complain about?" Nadia was clearly exasperated by the spoiled girl-- but she wasn't completely horrible. Leaving Mia behind, as it would relieve the headache that was slowly creeping towards her temples, would be wrong. She searched her mind for anything that could help them escape. Fire... Blasting charm-- There were a handful of possibilities but only ones that would injure the forest. Nadia wasn't into all that Herbology stuff, but she knew it was important in maintaining balance and peace to Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest.
Nadia ignored Mia's continued yapping, trying to tune her out to think of something useful. The shield charm would only protect them for so long before the Acromantula got through. Thankfully, Mia opened her mouth and said something useful for once. "That's right... Let's pray to merlin it'll work on this big spider." Mia threw the spell at the Acromantula and shockingly, it worked. The shield charm dropped and the two girls were allowed some time to escape the spider and the forest. Nadia ran hard, careful not to trip like Mia had. She was in pristine condition thanks to Quidditch and quickly overtook Mia in pace. "Get a move on it, Mia!" Nadia exclaimed, the light from the exist into the creature sanctuary the most relieving thing Nadia had seen all day. Before long, the two girls emerged and shockingly, the acromantula ceased its pursuit. "What the hell?" She furrowed her eyebrows, keeled over and panting. "That... That acromantula should not have been there. They live far deeper in the forest, unlesss disturbed..." Nadia said.

If Mia had the time, she'd teach Nadia a fucking lesson speaking to her like that. As far as she was concerned, Nadia was all bark and no bite. She acted like she was some big, bad bitch but she couldn't hold a candle to her and Ivy. It didn't matter right now, though, because the Acromantula was fighting hard to devour them and they needed to do something about it. Besides, Mia could at least tolerate Nadia sometimes. And she needed her to keep bludgers from getting to her during a match.
Once the spider had flown back, Mia started to run. Irritation bubbled up in her chest as Nadia started to gain on her, the irritation quickly turning to anger as she told her to get a move on it. Fucking bitch, she thought before transforming into her Animagus form and slithering at top speed past her. Mia was in shape thanks to Quidditch and her diet, but she had been trying to avoid tripping over another root. Then Nadia had to make it into some kind of fucking competition. When she had entered the creature sanctuary, Mia transformed back into her human form, her chest heaving as she caught her breath. It was disorienting, transforming out of her Animagus form and losing that double heartbeat, but Mia certainly had her wits about her as she looked back wildly to see the Acromantula retreating. She supposed the wards around the sanctuary prevented it from getting its next meal.
"No fucking shit," Mia said with an eyeroll before sighing. "Everything in the forest has been acting strange lately. I've even seen the centaurs a lot closer to the castle than they normally are." The adrenaline was slow to wear off, her heart was still pounding like a drum in her chest. "We should probably report this. Professor Walker will want to know about it." Mia wasn't a teacher's pet or anything, but Professor Walker was their head of house and she also happened to teach her favorite subject.

Mia was faster then Nadia expected in her animagus-- but she didn't think to much about it. In her eyes, she'd one the little race they were participating in. She didn't need to be an actual snake to win like Mia. Despite her competitive spirit, the girl was glad they'd made it out alive. Barely, but alive. Nadia felt a pang, knowing she would no longer be so willing to go into the Forbidden Forest on her little walks. With the Forest becoming increasingly more dangerous, it was only a matter of time before students were banned from even entering. She couldn't imagine the Headmistress taking that away from the students but... something was serious wrong with the Forest. Not just the creatures-- Nadia had taken note of several plants that seemed discolored and almost... sick.
She snapped her eyes up to Mia, giving the girl a hard look. "Are you serious? Report this to Professor Walker? And what is she going to do about it? Tell us we're idiots for going that deep into the Forest and then bar us from going?" She shook her head, arms crossed tightly over her chest. "You can go run off and tell a Professor like a fool but I certainly won't. Somethings going on in this Forest, sure. But I'm not losing my access to it because a rouge spider was a little hunger. He probably wouldn't have even come after us if it wasn't for your-- form." She blamed Mia simply, dusting her shirt off. "I'm out of here. You can do whatever you want-- just don't involve me in your stupid ideas."

Honestly, Mia shouldn't be surprised that this was Nadia's reaction. The older snake looked at the younger one with a manicured brow raised as she went on about herself. And she thought that she was self-centered. Mia was amused by the lack of intellect and concern Nadia was expressing, but when she blamed her for the Acromantula's attack her expression turned to steel. "Wow, you really are a dumb fucking bitch," Mia hissed at her, stepping in closer. "What Professor Walker would do is expand the wards further into the forest. You know, so a dumbass like yourself doesn't get themselves eaten." She couldn't help but scoff at the younger witch. "And I thought that I was selfish." Her dark eyes were hard as they bore into Nadia. "And you're especially stupid if you think that I was the one to provoke it. You didn't even know I was fucking there, but you were loud. Have you ever been in the Forbidden Forest before? Because it was like you were asking for something to happen."
