Character History:
When Olivia Anderson met Charlie Wylde it was love at first site. He had a fish hook through his head, a cheeky smile on his face, and by the time the two parted ways, both had already scribbled down their numbers on each others hand and had a fluttering in their heart. Olivia, a dedicated nurse, was one of a handful of nurses living and studying in the area-- Charlie, on the other hand, was a clumsy fisherman, studying under the wing of his father in the hopes of taking up his mantle once his old man became.. well... too old.
Safe to say their love story was written in the stairs. Despite not having any more fish hooks stuck through his hands, Charlie found excuses to return to Olivia. He needed his blood taken for some... tests. He got a cut and feared it was tetanus. He needed a bandaid and the local shoppe ran out. Any excuse he could make to see her, he did. Eventually, he gave up on the medical excuses and started bringing Olivia lunch. Though never formally dating, the two found an easy swing of life and before long they were married.
Nadia was a bright, happy child born to two parents who loved her very much-- Clovelly, despite how small it was, fostered the family through Nadia's entire childhood. She spent long days on the boat with her father, learning how to fish, being horrified when she would catch one, and refusing to keep a fish-- ever. She was happy, healthy, and had plenty of friends in primary school that kept her busy when she wasn't tucked under the arms of her parents, Olivia and Charlie.
It was when she turned eight that her life changed-- for better and for worse.
A fish flopped aboard her father's boat, gasping for water, desperate to return to the salty waters that she lived in. Nadia, feeling sad for the poor creature wanted to do anything for it but was confined to the cabin. One moment later, and a pool of water had formed, replenishing the fish's life-force. It was the first time she'd ever been magical. At first, Nadia was deeply confused at her actions and wouldn't learn where it came from for a long while but she let her mind ease.
That year was filled full of merriment and joy from the Wylde family-- Nadia was lead in the school play, she was excelling in her classes, and she was on track to join the girls football team that spring as well. All was happy until Olivia was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Olivia wasn't a smoker, she kept her health in superb condition... but there was nothing to be done. With only a few months left to live with wife and mother, the Wylde family soaked up every second they could with Olivia until she was gone.
It was a solemn few years without Olivia and Nadia quickly retreated from her friends at school. She almost always wanted to be with her father, stuck at his side regardless of what he did. If she didn't want to go to school, she'd "get sick" and spend the day on the boat with her father. It took her a few months to start returning to school, and even through her grief stricken and confused adolescent mind, she persisted.
Discovering she was a witch was a lackluster day. Hogwarts had potential, but she didn't want to leave her father. Magic couldn't bring her mother back, so what was the use in learning about it? Unless she could turn the clock back and save her mum, it wasn't worth it. But her father insisted. It was the chance of a lifetime to explore a new facet of herself she never thought she had. She had to. And so, begrudgingly, a very upset and homesick Nadia was shipped off to the Highlands of Scotland to attend Hogwarts.
Her first year was rough. She was deemed Slytherin, which what she heard from other houses, meant she was evil and wicked. Nadia certainly didn't feel evil or wicked, but her hatred of being a witch soured her so much that she refused to make friends with others, coming off as very standoffish and unpleasant to others. Thankfully, her second year changed some things for her.
She made a few friends in her house and began playing Quidditch, a sport that exhilarated her and filled her full of purpose. Hogwarts was starting to feel like a place she liked and even though the distance was hard, her father wrote her every week like clockwork, making sure she was happy and healthy and reminding her how much he loved her and missed her-- that didn't help with the homesickness, but the few friends she was sticking to were nice.
She eventually found her love of chess, Defense Against The Dark Arts, and even Charms. Quidditch, of course, was first and foremost, but Nadia was determined to make sure her educational career at Hogwarts would set her up for the best success in the real world. If she didn't want a wizarding career, she would get top marks to ensure she could go to whatever top rated university she could.
The rumors about Slytherins being nasty and evil, while not completely true, turned Nadia into proving those people right. Maybe it was just her personality, or maybe it was fate... But Nadia had a sharp tongue, quick wit, and an intolerance for most things. Sarcastic and snappy, she used her sharp wit and intellect to shut down people she deemed unworthy. Goofing off in class? Nadia was certain to set someone straight. She never considered herself a mean girl... but she didn't fear using her words to wound people she found to be useless.
