Character History:
Hailey knew her family had history and a lot of it. Many times over the years her Nanny Catalina had tried to drill some of that history into Hailey’s head at her mother and father’s behest. For Catalina’s sake Hailey learned just enough to keep her parents happy. She knew that her mother Flora Carrow had a twin, aunt Hestia Carrow, her grandparents Ambrose and Victoria Carrow came from grand pure-blood families. Her father, Theodore Nott was the only son of Thomas and Nerissa Nott and thus felt it necessary to have several children. Something that was seen as good all around because pure bloods were dying out. Hailey secretly thought that was probably for the best.
Not a lot of Hailey’s formative years stand out to her, she’s mostly forgotten her life before Hogwarts except for the old bit or piece. It’s overall unpleasant and lonely, she knows that, so Hailey’s happy to let go of her past. Still some things stick around, little shards of memory that hang around the back of her mind like a guest who’s overstayed their welcome. Like Hailey can recall how she saw the house elves more than her own parents. She remembers hating her younger brothers because her father actually paid attention to them. They were boys, they were going to carry on the family name. Other things she knows from other people's stories. One her older sisters like to drag out is the fact that growing up Hailey always tried to follow her big sisters Elle and Bella around because people have told her as much. It makes sense to Hailey, she does hate being left out.
Growing up Hailey took a lot of cue from her sister Giselle, when Giselle disrespected their father Hailey outright ignored both of their parents. It wasn’t hard, she almost never saw them. She got the feeling though that her parents never noticed nor cared that she ignored them. Once upon a time Hailey had wanted nothing more than her parents attention but as she grew older Hailey slowly figured out that she would never be enough, that she just wasn’t what they wanted. The realisation was a freeing as it was painful.
One cue Hailey never took from Elle though was mending bridges. When Elle tried to mend things with Jayden Hailey did not. She refused to let go of any grudge no matter how small or childish.
As the middle child, Hailey often felt overlooked or out right ignored left to her own devices. Hailey took up flying first, and then any sort of athletes that got her out of the house. It was an outlet for her. A way out of the house and away from her chilly distant family.
Being away from home, making friends, Hogwarts had been good, she would’ve preferred to stay come summer. So she spent as much of the summer as she could out of the house. She’d been sure to make lots of plans with her new school friends to hang out. Some plans she’d even made with people she barely liked but if it got Hailey out of the house she didn’t mind playing nice for a few hours.
Quidditch was fun, Hailey played as a beater for Slythern. Between practice, studying, and hanging out with friends Hailey kept herself very busy. Knowing what she wanted made it easy for Hailey to focus on what mattered most. Like top marks and a spotless reputation, she even made perfect. The only deviation from her plans was Zayne, her older, muggleborn housemate, fellow beater on the quidditch team, and, eventually her first boyfriend. Of course Hailey had kissed before Zayne, she’d even had the odd fling here or there, usually during the summer, but he was the first person to earn any sort of title.
Hailey’s seventh year taught Hailey that she simply wasn’t allowed nice things in her life. It turned out that Zayne was the jealous sort, and when he graduated before Hailey he grew insecure and one day, seeing Hailey get a little too close to one of her housemates at a match they broke up. It was loud, public, humiliating, and she hated him for making such a scene at a semi-final match.
(The housemate in question was one Leviathan, the closest thing she had to a childhood friend. He was also very gay and crushing on a player for the other team. Of course Leviathan wasn’t out yet, but Hailey could tell. Like any good friend she’d just been giving Levi a window of opportunity, a chance to talk to his crush before the match. Why wouldn’t he say hi to his ‘friend’? After all, he was already on the pitch, bringing Hailey a pair of gloves that she’d accidentally-on-purpose left in the common room.)
In her mind Hailey reframed the break up as a good thing, cutting off dead weight so she could focus on her studies. The lie was weak but she clung to it.
After graduation Levi and Hailey got a place together, as they’d been planning for ages. She got a job as a healer in training, just like she’d always wanted.
