A light coat of snow covered the pitch, but that didn't stop Jazmina from taking a jog. Dressed in a long sleeved shirt and jogging pants, she'd already cleared a path with her steps. The cool air burned her lungs, but she ignored it. Her steps were light as she jogged, one foot in front of the other. When she came upon the bend; she picked up her speed. Jazzy was going to help bring her team to victory this year, thus she needed to be in tip top shape. It didn't matter what the weather was like. It could be raining, hailing, sleeting, or snowing. The other teams would probably be slacking off, tucked away in their common rooms, but not her.
A majority of her time was spent researching for personal gain, but Quidditch had always been the secondary highlight of her life. She loved how free she felt when she was in the sky, zooming through the clouds after the Golden Snitch. She loved it best when caught said snitch, pulling the team into victory. She loved the roar of the crowd. The way the entire school came together for a unified moment, even if they were rooting for opposing teams. Quidditch helped the world slow down, and for a few brief moments, Jazmina felt like the average fifth year old girl.
Every season she would chase the same high, but nothing would right the wrongs of the world until Leo was back with them. She shook her head as dark thoughts clouded her mind. They were back around the lake, laughing and playing. Campion had mentioned that Leo was missing. Benjamin and Donovan had taken off in search of him. Finnick had started checking around the campground. Jazzy was screaming Leo's name over and over again. There was a splash in the water. Ben was wailing.
"Enough," Jazmina screamed as she came to a skidding halt. Her legs felt weak and she collapsed to the ground, a sob wracking her body, her breath billowing out in front of her. She pressed her hands into the cool earth, steadying herself as the memory faded. "It was a long time ago," she told herself. "It wasn't your fault." She'd done this routine before. She'd get caught up in the past, return to the present, and remind herself that she was safe, that Leo was gone and it wasn't her fault, and more importantly. "You'll bring him back."

It was quiet. Not just the kind of quiet that came over a classroom where an irritated professor commanded it so, but the quiet that happened when the Earth was blanketed in snow. The kind of quiet that was busy with the sounds of nature-- birds chirping, small creatures breaking twigs and rustling leaves, or the soft shift of wind blowing flakes of ice and snow to create trails of white around. It was ethereal. If Nadia could capture a moment in time, it would be times like this. But not even a picture or a video could encapsulate the serenity and calm this brought to her. Only a moment experiencing it would be good enough to capture it.
She liked coming to the Quidditch Pitch early in the morning to scribble down lingering thoughts in her journal or to read. It was quiet, but not like the Slytherin dorms in morning, where it was quiet, but so filled with other people and life. Her quill wrote furiously on a piece of parchement-- the words on the page often matched up with the intensity of her writing. "That imbecile Sarah once again made horrible marks for her shyness. Serves her right. Magic is not something to be shy about. You must command it." "The Gryffindor sods are fighting again. I'm not sure any of them have an IQ higher than 3." But today her normally judgements on her peers were no where to be found and her journal only acted as something hard for her paper to go against. She was writing a letter to her father with a grin wider than she normally sported.
'Dear Dad, I hope you're doing okay. Hogwarts is freezing. If it were this cold in Clovelly, I would expect the entire ocean to be frozen over! Even despite the cold weather, I hope every day you go out, you bring back a hundred or more fish! I know the entire town will be buying all of them at market before you can even get them off the boat. As for me? Well, Hogwarts has been particularly quiet. Quidditch practice is good. Well, goodish. I know I could do better if my team got some of their act together-- they're all lovely people, but I think some of the older players have gotten complacent and lazy." Nadia didn't really believe they were all lovely, in fact she abhorred some of the people she played with, but her dad didn't need to know that. "I miss you loads! I wish you could be closer. I'm having a good time at Hogwarts... But even after all these years, I miss Clovelly greatly. How is Bessie? I hope she's keeping you good company! Even though I think you should've gotten a different kind of dog, I suppose a sheep dog can also be content on a boat or on the farm... I love you dad! P.S. Thank you for the scarf. Your crocheting Is getting so good! Love Nadia.'
She beamed down at the paper, said scarf wrapped around her to keep her warm. Her dad had started crocheting during the off months when he got bored-- the stitches were lopsided, there was hardly any tension in most of the rows, but it was filled with love and care and that's all Nadia really cared for from her father. Her attention was quickly pulled from the page at the sound of someone's voice disturbing her serene morning. Who dared to interrupt her peaceful writing?! Snapping her head, she furrowed her eyebrows at the crumpled form on the Quidditch Pitch. Who the hell was keeled over so early in the morning? Placing her items down on the bench, she rose, slowly approaching the individual. Upon closer inspection, it was Jazmina. Oh. Oh. "What are you doing here? Are you... uh.. okay?" Nadia asked awkwardly, a hard look on her face that was her attempt at portraying mild concern for her housemate.

Jazzy was still recovering when Nadia spoke. She hadn't heard the other Slytherin approach, so naturally, she was startled. Her eyes grew a bit wide, and she turned her head to look at the other girl. Jazmina let her brain process the situation. Teammate. Dormmate. Nadia. She wasn't going to spill her guts to the other girl, even if they both understood the deep wounds of losing someone precious to them. She answered the question with an even tone, her voice correcting itself to avoid further speculation that she was not well. Not that she was worried about Nadia thinking as much. The other girl was cold as ice and although she was trying to play nice, Jazzy declared her a failure. The gesture was kind though. She could respect Nadia for at least putting in the effort.
"I was training," Jazmina spoke. She wasn't out in this cold weather for some leisure stroll. Jazzy wouldn't say that aloud though. It was rude and unnecessary, and she considered herself one of the more tolerable females who walked the grounds. "I can't afford to slack off with the upcoming match. Goldswithe will bring his A-Game, and I don't intend to lose to him." She pointed to the ground. "Better to trip and make mistakes on the ground than in the air when it really counts." She shook her head and stood up slowly, dusting herself off. "I'll be fine. Thank you for asking." She raised one brow. "What are you doing out in this cold?" Nadia hadn't been training, so there must be some other reason.

Jazmina was startled. Huh. Was she really not paying attention to her surroundings when she had her little... accident? Though, the more Nadia was around Jazmina she didn't feel like it was a running accident. Nadia was no idiot and she could see when someone was lying straight through their teeth. Still, it wasn't her position to push Jazmina to admit why she'd tripped and had her little moment. How many times had Jazmina and Nadia really spoken, after all? Despite being housemates and teammates, Nadia couldn't recall too many times. It wasn't that she didn't like Jazmina, she seemed like a fine enough person-- but then again Nadia didn't know her. Perhaps that was her own fault or a lack of trying to become friends with Jazmina-- or, the other snake was simply so insignificant that she rarely showed up on Nadia's radar. Either way, the five years they'd been attending school together, their communication was sparse.
"Training." Nadia responded with a raised eyebrow. Her tone indicated the heavy questioning, but she didn't ask anything more. If she really was training, that was true dedication to the sport-- hardworking was something Nadia admired. She huffed out a laugh. "Goldsmith has no chance." Nadia said simply-- it wasn't arrogance, but a proper belief that Slytherin had something special with their team. "We've worked too hard to lose to him-- or any other team for that matter." The girl said, shifting her position and crossing her arms. Why was she out here in the cold? "I like the cold." Nadia responded simply, glancing back where she'd left to check on Jazmina. "I was writing a letter as well. Normally..." Emphasis on the normally. "People aren't out here this early in the morning." Nadia flicked her eyes up and down Jazmina, as if ensuring she wasn't bleeding from her tumble. "Don't get offended when I ask this-- But you don't need to see a healer do you? It's a hassle but I can take you if you've twisted your ankle or something... Or if you're bleeding... I'm sure we can find a.. uh.. bandaid if it's not that serious. Or whatever."

Jazmina observed Nadia's face. The tone her housemate took with her was not one she appreciated. "If you're going to use such a tone, you might as well ask outright," Jazmina commented. She didn't raise her voice. She didn't sound mad. She only made it clear that Nadia didn't have to beat around the bush. That wasn't to say Jazmina would give her a different answer, she just didn't like the accusation that she was lying. That was the same tone her mother often took with them if she thought they were straying from the truth. It was usually Finnick who was the culprit in such a situation. Either way, Jazzy hadn't been lying. Not completely. She had indeed been out training. She'd only fallen because she'd gotten distracted, and her legs had grown weak in her moment of grief. Nadia didn't need to know that. It wasn't her business.
There was no regret to be had at calling Nadia out, even if the Slytherin had continued on to speak highly of their team. "We've nothing to fear because we have excellent Chasers like yourself," she interjected. She would always give credit where credit was due. Ravenclaw had a strong team, and there was no need to get complacent. "But a Seeker brings the game to a close. The quicker I catch it, the less work you all have to put in." Nadia's admission to liking the cold was not something they had in common. Jazzy preferred warmer weather. Writing in this weather was insanity. If anyone should be going to see the Healer, it was Nadia. "My ankle is fine, thank you," she responded politely. "If I can survive a bludger, I can survive a ground level fall." She gave a small, albeit amused smile.

"I just only wonder what the little outburst was earlier... But you know me, I'm not one to pry." Nadia flashed a vaguely surly smile, although that could've been the way that her face looked. "If you say you're training, I believe you." Okay, that was a lie-- but Nadia really didn't feel like getting into a verbal fight this early in the morning. Besides, Jazmina was her teammate. Even if it didn't seem like the other girl even knew what position she played. Training or not, Jazmina needed to make sure her game was good. Seeker won it all. Glory or failure. "We do have excellent Chasers, but I thought you'd know better that I wasn't one of them. Guess that training of yours is just physical." Nadia commented, arms crossed over her chest. "But don't worry... I'll try and make sure Bludgers stay far away from your pretty little head. Or whatever. Chaser or beater-- who needs to know the difference when you're a glorious seeker." Nadia could've rolled her eyes but she resisted the urge. The girl glanced again, ensuring her counterpart was really fine. Not that she wanted to cozy up with Jazzy unnecessarily. "Are you heading back?" She asked, expecting a no. The girls would walk back in silence if they walked together, Nadia just had a feeling.

Jazzy dusted off the snowy debris from her pants. She took note of a small rip in the knee and the mud that had smeared itself into the fabric. It was a pity, she liked these pants. They were great for working out in, even better when you wanted a cozy night by the fire. "The outburst followed by my fall," she asked the so called non-prying girl. Jazzy gave a small shrug, but found herself thoroughly embarrassed by mixing up Nadia's position on the team. An apology was warranted. She was not so prideful that she could not admit a mistake, but then Nadia had to rub it in. Jazmina had half a mind to tell her off, but what go would it do. "It was an honest mistake, Nadia. You're an excellent Beater, and I apologize for calling you a Chaser. You've saved me on several occasions, and I'd appreciate it if you continue to do that in the future." She knew Nadia was an excellent player, had been for years. Jazzy had meant no harm, but it was clear the mix up had gotten under Nadia's skin. She took another look at her clothes and then nodded. "I suppose I might as well head inside. This cold will do me no good." Note: Nadia being a Chaser was definitely an oversight on my part. XD

Nadia wasn't nosy, she'd stand on that-- but she was a naturally suspicious person. And whoever or whatever Jazmina was yelling at... well, it definitely wasn't because of training. Nadia knew well enough about outburst like that one to understand that. But she shrugged it off, understanding that Jazzy didn't want to go into. They weren't best friends, let alone close acquaintances-- Nadia didn't have any business knowing Jazmina's deep, dark, trauma's. Not that she cared anyways.
Jazzy quickly apologized and Nadia almost felt bad for making a big deal out of it-- but it passed very quickly. She just nodded her head and offered her a look that said 'okay fine, I won't let a Bludger hit you next game.' They weren't friends, but they were teammates and to Nadia, that counted for a lot. She respected her teammates more than any person in Hogwarts-- they worked hard to help her to victory and that wouldn't be forgotten. "We should walk back together, then." She offered despite her initial hesitation in walking back with Jazzy. "It's snowy and dangerous. And if you slip again, you might not be so lucky."
Note: On Accio, she was a chaser! But I decided to change things up over here! (Aka, all my students end up as chasers...)

Jazmina looked at Nadia for a long time after the girl spoke of walking back together, based on it being dangerous outside. The blond couldn't help the smile that found its way to her lips, nor the shine in her eyes. "You know, you're absolutely terrible at trying to be friendly," she said with a laugh. She waved her hands in front of her. "Please don't take it the wrong way, but it is a smidge funny. You've no natural flow. It's almost as if everything is forced with you." She swallowed back some of her audible laughter, but it was still very much clear in her eyes. "I do appreciate your offer though," she added after another moment. She started walking backward towards the school. It was clear she had little concerns about falling. They both knew her reason for hitting the ground had been a lie. "I think I've only seen you relaxed in the skies," she said, pointing upwards. "Like the ground holds you prisoner, but up there you're free." Jazmina meant no harm by her words, but it did amuse her to see Nadia so uptight. It was as if being nice might be the end of her.
