Things with him and Bella were going extremely well since the two of them expressed their feelings for one another. Liam was well aware none of this would have happened without the intervention of two sixth year Ravenclaws. One just so happened to be his dormmate. Liam had said nothing to Nate about the events that had occurred in the Astronomy Tower. With that being said, it was no secret that he was openly spending time with Bella. He had carefully waited for a Hogsmeade Weekend in order to have a little chat with his friend. After collecting all the candy Ralphie had requested from Honeydukes, Liam had made his way over to the Three Broomsticks. He'd told Nate to meet up with him for butterbeers. He had even invited Finch along, on the basis that his other dormmate and friend was willing to tear himself away from Rose. He was beginning to think the two of them wouldn't be able to breathe without each other. Liam found an empty table and parked himself in a seat. He would order once his friend arrived. In the meantime, he busied himself with reading a copy of the Daily Prophet.

To be completely honest, Nate had kind of forgotten about his plot with Laurie to get Liam and Bella together. It wasn't all that long ago when it was the sole contender for his thoughts, but after he met up with Laurie in the Astronomy tower and realized he had developed some actual feelings for his classmate she had kind of taken over his mind. It was taking every bit of willpower he had to not do something about these newfound feelings. He was kind of convinced that she was feeling the same way about him, but he wasn't absolutely sure and he didn't want to ruin their friendship by making a move too soon.
It wasn't until Liam invited him to the Three Broomsticks that he remembered their scheme. He'd seen Liam and Bella together recently, but like I said his mind was a bit preoccupied with another Ravenclaw. Finch was invited, too, but after seeing him snogging Rose outside the tower Nate was pretty sure he wasn't coming with. He wasn't mad about it at all; he understood what it felt like to be wrapped up in a new romance. It surprised him, naturally, to see Rose Kelly commit to an actual relationship, but he was glad that it was with Finch. The two of them seemed really happy together and that's what really mattered. Anyway, Nate dressed himself and headed to the Great Hall for a bite to eat before eventually making his way down to the Three Broomsticks. The place was crowded, as it normally was Hogsmeade weekends, but Nate had no problem finding his friend in the crowds. The boy steeled himself before moving toward him, taking the seat opposite of him. "Read anything interesting?"

Liam looked up from the paper as Nate graced him with his presence. "Just that Laurie Greer and Nathaniel James are clever schemers," he answered, glancing over the paper. Liam wasn't made about the ordeal, mainly because things had turned out so well. He was just mildly annoyed that Laurie and Nate had felt the need to butt in. Nate had picked a really awful way to go about handling the situation too. He remembered their conversation in the Great Hall all too well. He'd thought Nate had wanted Bella all for himself, and for the sake of a challenge at that. Liam had never felt so despondent in his life. Thankfully Nate had been kind enough to correct his error. Their friendship had not suffered for it. Liam was easy to forgive. "Butterbeer," he asked the other Ravenclaw. He had invited Nate here, so he might as well treat him to a butterbeer. It seemed only fair. He got a decent enough allowance for keeping his grades up.

He should have known Liam would figure it out. The wizard was probably the smartest out of all the Ravenclaw boys. Nate leaned back in his seat and threw his arm up over the back of the chair. “You know what they say about great minds,” he offered nonchalantly, his eyes glancing about the room before falling to rest on his friends face. “Yeah, I’ll take one,” he replied to the offer. Nate had just scored a nice bit of coin for the last job he ran, but after spending so much time with Laurie he was starting to rethink his chosen profession. It was something he didn’t want her finding out about. And after what happened to that Caspar guy… well, he didn’t want to end up in a gutter somewhere. “You mad about it?” he asked after Madam Rosmerta had come and taken their orders. “It looks like it all worked out in your favor. I wasn’t gonna send you into that without knowing what would happen.”

Had Bella not mentioned Greer, he wouldn't have put two and two together for quite some time. He wasn't even aware that Laurie and Nate were close enough to devise such a plan. Truth be told, he thought they couldn't stand each other. He stared at his roommate with a level expression as Nate denied nothing. He might have chalked it up to just an odd coincidence had his roommate not been so smug about it. He was literally one of the few people that could get under Liam's skin. He closed his eyes, took in a deep breath, and let it out slowly as Nate asked if he was made about it. "There is a long list of words I have to describe what I feel, but mad isn't one of them," he answered after a moment. Could Nate at least act apologetic for butting into Liam and Bella's affairs? "I didn't even know you were friends with Laurie. That's new."

Nathaniel didn’t act apologetic because he wasn’t sorry. It all worked out well for the two of them and honestly he was tired of seeing the lovesick way Bella looked at him. He just wanted them to own up to their feelings and do something about them. The only thing he didn’t look back on with satisfaction was the way he went about it and he already apologized for that, an act that was not done lightly. Nate and Laurie’s scheme was a success and both Liam and Bella were happier for it, so he didn’t see a problem with it.
The boy grinned as Liam took a moment to compose himself. It was always so amusing to him how he could get under his friend’s skin. He did his best not to push it too far, however, because annoyance can turn to anger quickly and he didn’t feel like losing a friend. He said he wasn’t mad and Nate spread open his hands as if to say “my job is done”. The mention of Laurie brought a flutter with it and he could feel a tickle in his throat as the heat started to climb up his neck. He tried very hard to mask the sheepish smile that started to spread across his face and he rubbed the back of his neck. “I guess,” he said, trying to brush it off. He really didn’t want to get into it, especially not since he realized his feelings. Nathaniel cleared his throat. “We hang out sometimes it’s no big deal.” He didn’t think he sounded very convincing.

Was there nothing in this world that could humble Nate? Would his friend have felt bad had things gone south? The question was up for debate, but he didn't think Nate would give him a decent answer. His friend would probably continue to point out that things had gone smoothly, and that was all that mattered. Liam would have to agree to disagree. Or maybe he'd find a way to get back at Nathaniel James, who seemed to give way at the mention of one Laurie Greer. He didn't bother hiding the smile that formed on his lips as Nate cleared his throat. "No big deal, huh?" He paused long enough to retrieve the drinks that were being handed to them. "Thank you," he told the waitress with a friendly nod. Liam turned his attention back to Nate. "I was always under the impression that you two didn't like each other. What changed?" Sure, there was the mutual friendship of he and Bella, but there had to be something else there.
