FAMILY & HISTORY

Character History: While working a job in the heart of Valencia, Adam Clarke came upon the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen in his life. Her name was Camila Ramirez and she had come to gaze at the stars. The tomb he was sent to clear out was at the peak of a mountain and, according to her, was the best spot to pick out constellations. He was enthralled with her immediately. The two of them talked for hours under the stars, learning more about each other. She was a witch, he discovered, and was at least somewhat connected to the wizard buried in the mountain. Before he completed the job, they made plans to meet again the next day. Their love blossomed quickly and he brought her back to London with him when he left.
Years later they had a little girl named Isabella. She was their pride and joy all wrapped up in a little pink bundle. Bella grew up knowing her parents loved her. Her father was the sole provider for the family so he was often working jobs. He was a Curse Breaker for Gringotts. There would be weeks where she didn’t see much of her dad, but that just made the time spent together that much more precious. Camila Clarke stayed home with her daughter. Bella’s days were filled with quality time with her mama. She’d help her cook and clean, they’d play or read together, and right before bed they’d lay outside and watch the stars. Her mother was an Astronomer before she met her dad so she taught her the different constellations and how to find them. Isabella loved this time with her mum. Their bond was special. Those warm summer nights with her mum, surrounded by fireflies in the yard while the crickets sang their chorus, became the memory she’d end up using to cast her Patronus.
Adam and Camila never had any other children. Whether this was a purposeful decision or not, Isabella didn’t know. A small part of her hoped she’d remain an only child so she wouldn’t have to share her parents. It was a selfish thought so she didn’t think it often. Bella didn’t like to put herself and her desires before anyone else. She learned to appreciate the wonderful people in her life, counting her many blessings. Not many were as lucky as she was.
Then came her Hogwarts letter. Coming from a pureblood and half-blood and with her own affinity for magic, this wasn’t unexpected, but it was still exciting. That was one of her happiest birthdays. Her parents told her of their time in school, each of them passing down their wisdom to the eleven year old. Her mother never attended Hogwarts, but came of age at Beauxbatons. Her dad was a Gryffindor. She was fascinated with the stories and started to dream of what her schooling would look like. She liked the idea of Ravenclaw house, connecting the house traits with her mother. It was an inspiring time, but only for a short while.
A few weeks before school started for Isabella, her mother passed away in her sleep. It was sudden and unexpected and they were both devastated. Adam lost the love of his life while Bella lost her beloved mother. The Healers couldn’t give them any answers on how or why she died. It just… happened. Adam struggled to pick up the pieces in the wake of her death. He was convinced it was foul play and he vowed to find out what happened. He became quite obsessed with it, but he still managed to be somewhat of a father to Bella. He got her on the Hogwarts Express for her first year at Hogwarts.
Bella was utterly destroyed. Her mother was gone and that was in of itself enough to break her, but her father seemed to be gone as well. She could hardly keep herself together those first months. Her heart seemed to break even more when she was sorted into Ravenclaw. Bella had always been a bit emotional. She felt things deeply and could struggle with getting a handle on them. That first year the kids teased her for her sensitivity. She was stuck trying to process the profound loss and learn magic at the same time. Astronomy became her comfort, a way to stay connected to her mother without feeling like she was dying. Bella poured herself into the subject, often sneaking out of her dorm to gaze at the stars in the Astronomy Tower. This had helped her tremendously. She was able to focus on her other studies and it became clear she was quite clever. Her grades improved and she was earning more praise for her spellwork in Charms. She started smiling more and talking to others. Things were looking up.
Her father’s obsession with finding the truth came to a head her third year. He’d been spending less and less time at work and more and more days in his office, staring at the board he put together. Who could want Camila dead? Bella finally told him that if he didn’t get it together, she was moving in with her aunt and uncle. She had moved on from what happened but he couldn’t let it go. That summer, she moved in with her Aunt Lily and Uncle Ben. She still lives with them after all these years.
Bella still misses her mom and sometimes the pain of that loss resurfaces, causing Bells to retreat into herself until it passes. Her relationship with her father is still fractured, but he recently sent a letter to her saying he was ready to move on so we’ll see. She’s coming into her sixth year with a smile on her face and love at her side. Who knows what will happen next?
