finch was feeling … more at peace than what he’d expected. nate had helped him with his kind words (no matter how unexpected it was) and he realized with it that … he was cared about, wasn’t he? finch had forced himself into isolation with the news, but his friends remained unchanged in how they felt about it, about him. it didn’t save him from the guilt of pushing them away and there was only one thing he could do to help that now; apologize. liam was the only person he hadn’t seen yet, not since ditching their study session, so as he swung himself slowly into the common room of ravenclaw tower, his eyes immediately searched for him. the seeker stood there smiling sheepishly, hand rubbing the back of his neck as he approached. “hey, sagewater,” finch said. “have a minute?”

Liam had taken up tutoring to help those unfortunate souls who had fallen behind in their coursework. At the moment he was reviewing some basic charms for the two second years that had requested his assistance. Tomorrow, he'd help them practice their wandwork. He had confidence that by Monday morning, they would pass the practical exam with no trouble at all. Hearing Finch call his name immediately drew him away from the book he'd been slouched over. A weight lifted off his shoulders just by seeing Finch's face. His dorm mate had been MIA, and that had not been okay. "Hey Goldie," he greeted, hoping to lighten the mood. That sheepish smile told him something was up. "Of course I've got time," he answered, turning around completely in his chair. "What's up?" Had Nate had a chance to talk with him? He hoped so.

“hey, goldie.”
the relief that he felt at the gentility in liam's tone was ... an unexpected thing to be grateful for. maybe it was the grief that had him feeling so undeserving of their kindness, but nate had already talked him off the brunt of the edge. finch headed for the low laying table that was placed between them, taking a seat on the edge. his eyes crossed the book he'd had, a small smile making its way to his tired face. “nate kinda ... brought me back down to earth last night,” finch said. “i'm sorry i haven't been a great friend. i think i could've told you guys i needed space without isolating myself.” the young wizard offered the other a bigger smile now, though he still kept his gaze low. he wasn't sure why there was so much shame boiling in his chest; maybe for fear of ending up like his father, maybe just the simple fact that he was young and learning. “thank you, by the way,” he added after a small pause. “i've got some pretty cool people in my corner.”

Ah, so Nate had talked to him. That was good. It was an even better sign that Finch had finally made an appearance. He gave a small smile when Finch apologized. "I appreciate the apology, but it's unnecessary. I'm just glad to have you back, so wipe that look off your face. It's unbecoming of you." He rested his cheek on the palm of his hand. "We're friends Finch. If you ever need anything, you know where to find me." If he hadn't been explicitly clear about it before, there was no doubt to be had now. He took a moment to consider his next words. He still didn't know what the problem was, but... "No need to go into details, but are you okay," he asked. A yes or no would suffice just fine.
