Character History: Born ten minutes prior to her brother, Poppy will forever remind him that she is superior. The first and only daughter of a loving family, Poppy strayed from the little princess life that so many girls her age dream of. A life her mother constantly reminds her she should have had. Poppy grew up a Daddy's Girl, but not in the traditional sense. While her mother earned an honest living to keep the family afloat, Gareth Carmichael lived the life of a criminal, but he always made sure his family had food on the table. He taught Poppy everything he knew, making sure she never had to rely on anyone but herself. You had to keep your wits about you in the Carmichael family.
Poppy learned the trade easily. Swindling the citizens of Wales was easy, and anyone who dared give her trouble learned she was more lean than skinny. Poppy, like her father, was a natural born fighter. She took wins with pride and loses like lessons. This horrified her mother, and their relationship became estranged by the time Poppy had turned eight. Regarding her brother, Poppy loves Parker, but she considers him soft bellied. He never had the stomach for the crime life. He preferred the traditional route of working hard to achieve his ambitions.
On their eleventh birthday, they received their letters to Hogwarts. This was a strange time for the family, seeing as though the Carmichaels were muggles. Poppy cared little for the logistics of it all, she was a witch and that meant she had the upper hand in a world that wanted her to scrounge for everything. Before she could enjoy the fruits of her blood, Poppy's father was arrested for murder and her mother refused to ever let the twins see him again.
Often times Poppy would claim she'd never had Maeve as a mother, and Maeve feeling hurt, responded that Poppy should have been a boy, or better yet never been born. Home life became unbearable. Hogwarts became the perfect escape. She even refused to go home during the holidays with Parker staying behind to keep her company and look after her. She's never told him how much she appreciates it.
Year One Poppy made sure to establish her dominance. Prison rules say you take out the biggest, nastiest fellow you can find. Poppy was raised like a street urchin, so it took no time for her to pick out a target and corner seventh-year Slytherin Stacey Rubio in the girl's bathroom and give her a fight for her life. That was how Poppy got her first detention. The second came when someone whispered mudblood under their breath. She didn't know what it meant, but once she did, it was all out war. She'd get eight more detentions that year.
Year Two and she was forbidden from joining the Quidditch Team due to her poor behavior the previous year. Anger and aggression was better than sadness. There were several choice words exchanged, but still she didn't get her way. Both the Headmistress and the Deputy Head were in for a nasty surprise of molasses and slugs. This time it was a month straight of detention and the threat of expulsion. Of course, her mother made it a point to tell her she should act more like Parker. He was a perfect student. Poppy hated him for it.
Year Three and her Hogsmeade privileges were null void. Poppy suddenly felt trapped in the one place that was to be her refuge. It took her the entire first term to gain the right, and even then her Mother attempted to spite her by not signing it. Poppy might have gotten expelled for underage use of magic, but Parker secretly took her on an unauthorized trip to their father and got it signed. Poppy cried for the first time since her father was locked away. They write daily.
Year Four and she's still as short tempered as ever. Poppy has no desire to play the little nice girl her mother wants her to be. Her father writes that he's proud of her, and that's enough for her. It's the start of the second term and she's barely scraping by, and has only had two detentions. Maybe she'll keep her head above water without hurting someone?
