Orla's favorite teacher was her Herbology professor Elena Fernsby-- She was one of the most compassionate, kind, and fiery people Orla had ever met and really helped foster her love for plants. Elena provided her a lot of support after her brother disappeared-- and of any teacher, Elena looked out for Orla the most. She checked up on all her students, taking care to look out for each of them. Orla felt that Professor Fernsby was the first person to ever see her for who she was.

This was a hard one! But I believe Cara’s love language is quality time. She likes physical affection and words of affirmation, but what really drives her affection is spending time with those she loves. She’s the kind of person who feels deep connections with others and the stimulation of her mind is just as important as touch.
What’s an ambition of your character’s that really drives them? What’s so special about it?

For Fox it's his desire to be the absolute best at anything he does. At Hogwarts, it wasn't enough to just be the best student, but to lap all of his pureblood peers. It drove Fox to learn to fly despite an intense phobia, and to even earn a reserve spot on the Gryffindor Quidditch team in his seventh year. As a young father, it's the reason he's read every book on parenting that he can find. It all relates back to a feeling of never being good enough for his family, and it only grew worse at Hogwarts when he ran into what remains of blood supremacy.

I don’t know about “arch nemesis”, but Rose and Ivy absolutely hate each other. They’re both chasers and the competitive drive is part of their disdain for each other. On the pitch, the two of them going head to head is brutal. Rose hates that Ivy is a mean girl and, in her opinion, a snob. The two fight whenever they’re near each other.
What is your character’s perception of family?

Oh, that's complicated for Fox. He's never had a good relationship with his family and has mostly achieved everything on his own. He is building a family with Emilia now, but he really has no idea what he's doing, despite having read every book on child raising. So, he doesn't have a strong foundation but is trying really hard to figure it out for the one he's starting now.

Orla was one of my first ever Harry Potter characters. I knew I wanted a character that was spunky and stubborn and troublesome and out of that idea was born Orla. Someone who was super close with her family and someone who knew who she was as a person, even as a young girl. That dynamic reminded me a lot of a sibling relationship from a musical I really love and part of the Finch backstory was influenced by that. (Shout out to "Next to Normal). But to be honest, the first thing that inspired me to make Orla was just wanting to write Harry Potter and needing a character-- but what came out of it was one of my favorite characters I have EVER EVER written.

Wiley would be at home on the island if she had: a fully stocked potion's pantry, bottomless firewhiskey, and a proper curse to battle. People she'd want with her: a potion's master, a healer, and a friend/frenemy with benefits. Once all the resources were exhausted, she'd find a way off the island for herself and her companions because she refuses to be controlled by people or her circumstance.

Noah isn’t 100% sure why he accepted the Cannon’s bid. Part of him wonders if he did it just to please his extremely hard-to-please father, but another part wonders if he just wanted to prove himself to the world. Honestly, it’s probably a mixture of both. At first, when he was on the sidelines, he felt he made some grand mistake. But when the Cannons pulled him off the sidelines and put him in front of the goals, he found friends in his teammates and a routine that works for him. He’s happy in his position, but he does worry about the media when it comes to his girlfriend. What handicaps does your character have? It can be physical or mental

Elsie had a pretty big accident when she was in the United States. No one knows about it, but she was attacked by a Wampus Cat. She was really fascinated by the Wampus Cat's hypnosis ability and Legilimency-- but she knew they were extremely dangerous creatures. One day on an expedition in the Appalachian mountains, she was caught off guard by one of the creatures who used its hypnosis ability to attack her. During the attack, her arms, chest, abdomen and neck were severely mauled-- and the only reason she survived was thanks to her partner who fended off the Wampus Cat and saved her. She spent at least a month recovering from her wounds in a muggle hospital, the doctors believing it was a wild cougar attack. The scars on her neck have healed smoothly, leaving little to no trace of the incident, but Elsie is rarely seen wearing short sleeves and she refuses to go to the beach because of how painful the scars are to look at. Besides the physical injury, she has a deep phobia of cats and feline creatures now.

So it's almost 100% a no, Annie has a pretty deep seated aversion to engaging in anything darker than your run of the mill hexes because of what his family has been through. That said I've definitely talked about his nightmare scenario of like, most/all of his family dying or being separated from him, and in that situation he'd almost definitely become a serial killer, and at that point nothing's really off limits. I still doubt he'd be all that drawn to the dark arts (he'd just be a Hannibal Lecter style freak) but he'd have a lot fewer reservations. He'd kind of lose his entire sense of self without his family, so he could be a totally different guy.
I'm always asking this question but it's 'cause I love it: what does your character's childhood bedroom look like?

All the Quidditch posters. Anya Quinn and Sam Spade among them. Various quidditch gear is strewn across her room along with some of her favorite quidditch books. She's got pictures of herself and her friends hanging up with fairy lights to illuminate them. There are some plants that require little to no effort scattered about her room, but her mum is the one who really takes care of them. Now that she's older, she's got a vanity with an array of makeup and a closet full of clothes and shoes. They're not designer because her family can't really afford that, but they still look nice. There is an ottoman at the foot of her full sized bed that is littered with issues of Witch Weekly and Wizard Sports. Her bedding has a bohemian vibe and it's usually occupied by her cat. Something like this. How does your character see themselves? How does this vary from how they want others to see them?

Stabilizer. Protector. Supporter. Observer. And while he... respects that other people do see and even get more than that from him, that's about the extent that Annie sees in himself, his roles within the lives of others. He's not unhappy about this at all: he's most comfortable being a supporting character actually, but it definitely does speak to his self esteem being not all that great. It's... he's done some growing, but it's still a failing of sorts in his mind that the people around him can see well enough to be burdened by any of his honest-to-god issues, especially regarding his anger and aggression. He's terrified of scaring people he cares about. Fortunately he married a man who thinks violence is hot. Anyway.

Iola's relationship with aging is pretty complicated, yet simple at the same time. When she was younger, the idea of aging honestly scared her. She was a lot more shallow back then and wanted to stay young forever. She didn't let go of that fear until after Tad died and Mam was imprisoned. At that point in her life, she was more accepting of the idea of aging because growing old meant living and her life was not guaranteed while she was on the run. Iola was grateful for each passing day where she was relatively safe and breathing. When she had kids, however, her view on aging changed even further. Seeing her children grow up so incredibly fast made her really appreciate her time on earth. She's almost forty now and she is very content with her life and her age. She doesn't feel old by any stretch and she looks forward to growing older with her children and her husband. Over the last ten years, she's grown rather sagely and wise. She hopes that she is teaching her children just how precious life is and how they should never take it for granted.
