Hey! Thanks for stopping by. This is a plotter for my characters, who are all stupid.
Lawrence William Gable
His backstoryLawrence was raised in Flint, Michigan by his British mother. Lawrence's father died when he was a baby in an incident that he later learned was orchestrated by the Detroit mob. For most of his magical education, Lawrence attended Midwest Academy in Peoria, Illinois, but moved with his mother to England after being expelled from the academy. He finished his education at Hogwarts as a transfer student where he was sorted into Gryffindor. Lawrence made friends quickly at Hogwarts, but Gabrielle Quinn was his closest. Despite a dramatic start to their relationship, they married shortly after graduation and had two children, Claire and Rufio. After school, Lawrence traveled back to Detroit to confront the mob boss responsible for his father's death. He returned to England with a briefcase full of money which he used to buy his first house with Brielle and later open his business, Club Brielle. Today he's built a small empire from the office of his club where he juggles legitimate business with criminal enterprise. His personalityLawrence is just a really good guy. Though he operates on both sides of the law, he prefers nonviolent resolutions to conflict, often making lucrative partnerships with his enemies instead. That doesn't mean that he's easy to cross. Lawrence excels in building relationships and has friends in places as high as the Ministry of Magic. What he needsFriends and associates, criminal and non-criminal. Lawrence is in the middle of a confusing divorce from Brielle and is prone to throwing himself into other peoples' problems rather than facing his own. He does have the odd enemy here and there, so if anybody has an spiring magic criminal they want to throw at him that sounds fun to me too.
Theodore Donald Platt
His backstoryTheo's life is defined by the murder of his mother when he was nine years old. Though his father wasn't absent in his life, Charles Platt was prone to stretches of depression that often left Theo to process his grief alone. At first, Hogwarts was a blessing to the Muggleborn boy, but starting school during the height of the second war introduced him to a new world of terrors that he could hardly comprehend. Theo joined Dumbledore's Army in his second year where he developed his core understanding of human nature: the world is a dangerous place and everyone wants to kill you. From there he spiraled, keeping notebooks on his classmates that detailed their movements and behaviors. Theo found allies in his fellow Gryffindor, but everyone else was a potential threat, especially Slytherin. After Hogwarts, Theo landed a job with The Quibbler writing under the pseudonym "Frank Miller" where he used his deep knowledge of Hogwarts students in a weekly gossip column. His life took a sudden turn when his old classmate Brielle asked him to protect her troubled sister, Anya Platt , who had been framed for murder. Anya wasn't the first woman that he'd loved, but she was the first he'd completely fallen for. After clearing Anya's name, the two married and soon had their daughter, Greet. These days Theo is happily married and living on a farm with his wife and daughter. He left the Quibbler to focus on writing and has since published three successful romance novels. He remains completely terrified of everything, but he's managing. His personalityThough Theo has calmed down since his teenage years, he's still pretty jumpy and easily falls back into old fears given the right conditions. Despite Theo's phobias, he is quintessentially Gryffindor Brave with a strong white knight tendency informed by his mother's murder. He always faces the door in a public place. What he needsTheo's managing a quiet life on the homestead where he can control most variables around him. I really want to pull him out of his comfort zone, which could mean new threats or old enemies from the past.
Fox Calamus Bishop
His backstoryFox is a Muggleborn wizard with the world's biggest chip on his shoulder. He was raised in a Christian cult and his family initially rejected his Hogwarts letter but his parents relented when the school refused to take no for an answer. Instead, Fox's family disowned him, which made him even more eager to pour ever bit of himself into his studies. Fox took pride in outclassing all of his pureblood peers, winning championships in wizard chess, dueling, and the school talent show, though a proficiency in flying eluded him.
Fox got close to Emilia Montes in his sixth year after snogging with her at a party. Though the two were seemingly opposites to each other, they quickly grew inseparable. After several dumb decisions (including an elopement over winter holiday), they had a baby, Wolf Bishop, before the end of their seventh year. The scandal that followed hampered Fox's original plans for his future: law school, the Wizengamot, Minister of Magic, eventually the world, but he's pivoted to settling down with the first real family he's ever had as he figures himself out.His personalityFox is powered by spite. Even if a slight doesn't exist, he'll make one up just push himself forward. It's not that Fox is effortlessly good at what he does, instead he has to work twice as hard for everything he's achieved. He's high energy and often galaxy brained, a big personality who's a lot to handle but often endearing in his principles.
What he needsThis poor guy has absolutely no idea what he's doing. For the first time in years he has absolutely no road map. Fox's plan involved head boy, and now he's in the process of suing Hogwarts for discrimination (much to Emilia's dismay). Some of his dreams include going to law school and specializing in social justice, writing the Great Magic Novel, overseeing a massive reorganization of Hogwarts with a robust focus on "Muggle" topics like maths, and learning to ride a motorcycle. All of that is to say uh, he needs friends.
Bryant Sylvester Tannen
His backstoryBryant was abandoned by his young parents as a newborn and left to be raised by an alcoholic uncle who did try his best to raise Bryant as his own. Young Bryant didn't show any magic potential, which made it a surprise to his uncle when he received his acceptance letter from Hogwarts. Bryant was an outcast at Hogwarts. His only friend was a quiet Hufflepuff named Abbey Chandler , who Bryant had shared a cabin with on the Hogwarts Express in their first year. Though Abbey developed a crush on Bryant as they grew up together, Bryant was oblivious to her interest and instead pursuing Slytherin babes like Iola Walker and Liliana Quinn , the cruller the better. This eventually led to a falling out with Abbey after graduation. Bryant also discovered at Hogwarts that he had a half brother who is not my character, but important to bring up anyway.
Bryant bounce around a bit after Hogwarts, first helping to build schools in Jamaica after stowing away on the wrong ship landed him in the Caribbean, then getting run over by the Knight Bus in a scam that secured a fortune for him. After months of rehab, Bryant did the first thing all suddenly incredibly rich idiots do: he bought himself a job at Hogwarts as a junior Ghoul Studies professor. This was all another scheme to reconnect with his old friend Abbey, who was now Hogwarts' Herbology professor. Somehow Bryant has lasted ten years in his position, and these days he enjoys a healthy friendship with Abbey and her two young daughters. His personalityBryant is my dumbest character. He's a lousy wizard who skated through Hogwarts, sitting comfortably at the bottom of his class. Despite this, he can be surprisingly adept at magic, having once accidentally conjured his own little plant creature named Leroy who now sits at the front of his classroom and occasionally shrieks at students. Bryant plays tough a lot of the time but is extremely sensitive and prone to crying. He's a big dumb baby, basically.
What he needsI really want to explore Bryant the professor. He liberally hands out detentions for violations of rules that he made up, but I imagine his class is popular with students looking for an easy grade. Bryant often uses his lectures to reveal tea about his fellow professors, many of whom he went to school with.
Martin Woodward Abbott
His backstoryMartin is a Muggleborn wizard who has never really understood the magical world. Though fond of his Muggle life, his parents encouraged him to step outside of his comfort zone and attend Hogwarts. There, Martin felt trapped between worlds: a skilled wizard who would prefer to be in front of the TV. He didn't make a single friend in seven years. Martin's story really starts at a graduation party that he forced himself to go to. There he connected with Liliana Quinn , and the two dated through the rest of the summer, going their separate ways when both chose to pursue their own dreams instead of each other.
Martin spent the next ten years honoring a promise to Liliana that he would live his life to the fullest. He studied journalism at the University of Chicago where he really came out of his shell. Martin worked as a Muggle journalist for a bit out of school, but caught himself drawn back to the magical world. He returned to England as a freelance journalist, doing gonzo work like living on a knotgrass commune for six months and infiltrating a pureblood militia. After accepting a job as a featured columnist with The Daily Prophet, Martin's first story was to go undercover as a student at Hogwarts. There he reconnected with Liliana and eventually settled down with her. They are not married. His personalityMartin's principles rival Fox's, and they define his work as a journalist. Though he was a timid kid, he's grown to be outgoing and personable. He uses his seven years of experience blending in at Hogwarts to blend in with the odd communities that he often reports on.
What he needsMartin left the Daily Prophet after finishing the Hogwarts piece, but he's still an active freelancer. I could see pairing him with any odd number of professions to write about and building out a plot from there. Martin solves a mystery? I dunno, this is my least written character.
Samuel Philip Spade IV
His backstoryThe son of a Quidditch coach and a wizard chess grandmaster, Sam's hunger for competition is coded into his DNA. His focus on Quidditch is so total that he maintains a monastic dedication to his training routine, which includes a 6:00 PM bedtime during the season, save for night matches. Sam was a promising prospect coming out of high school, but he ascended to new levels in college where he led Magic Stanford to its first national title in seventy years. He signed with the Chudley Cannons out of college and is now one of the rising stars of the Gringotts Premier League, returning the Cannons to the national spotlight.
Sam is a popular figure in magic media and his whirlwind romance with rookie teammate Estrella Quinn has become a common focus of coverage. He's also in the middle of developing a friendly rivalry with Noah Bradley , who recently replaced the Cannons' woefully inept keeper. His personalitySam isn't gifted with supernatural ability, rather, a supernatural desire to be the best that he can be. His infectious spirit has lifted locker rooms and elevated teammates beyond their natural ceilings. He's friendly and easy going, but deadly serious about Quidditch and hard work.
What he needs
Friends and rivals mostly, I suppose. Fangirls, too.
