Rose's hands were sprawled in Finch's hair, her lips moving fervently against his as her heart thumped in her chest. His hands were working their way up from her hips to pull her closer, his teeth grazing against her bottom lip. She moaned into him, pushing him backwards until his back hit the wall of the alcove they were snogging in. See, this was fun. The whole 'are we, aren't we' thing was not. Rose didn't like thinking about how she hasn't seen anyone else since she ran into Finch that icy day before break. She didn't want to think about how she felt around him or how their relationship mirrored an actual relationship or any of that bull. All she wanted was to feel his hands, his lips on her.
She was getting ready to pull him to the closest broom cupboard to continue this when she heard the sound of footsteps echoing in their direction. Rose froze, pulling back and smacking him lightly on the chest. "Oh, shit. A prefect." As she leaned out of the alcove, she could see the one and only Shoshana Levy headed directly toward them. Finch was laughing and Rose leaned back in and gave him a death glare. "Shut up! You're gonna get us caught!" she hissed, shoving him further into the alcove. "Just stay here and when you get your chance, go. I've got this." She knew Shoshie. She was confident she could get out of this without losing points or detention.
Rose stumbled out of the alcove, her expression livid as she looked in its direction. "Damn, Rory said that was a shortcut." She looked up at Shoshie who had stopped when she saw her. "Shoshie! Wow, imagine meeting here," she laughed and stepped forward, reaching her with ease. "I was just headed back to my tower from the music room. Time just kind of got away from me. How are you?" Rose smiled up at her, hoping that Finch was taking the opportunity to escape before he got caught.

Prefects had a few responsibilities. One of them was evening corridor patrols at curfew. This evening was her weekly assignment, this time on the fifth floor. Shoshie was only just starting, stepping quickly into the fifth floor corridors before the staircases could set her waiting another five minutes, and the final bells had not yet rung for curfew, so she would not yet be tasked with providing actual consequence to peers, only redirecting them to return to their dormitories for the night. She was grateful for this what she actually found someone. Normally these patrols were uneventful. She was especially grateful when this someone turned out to be someone she was familiar with. She stood quiet as Rose excused herself.
She chuckled loosely. "Oh, hi." Shoshie liked Rose most of the time. She was more Naomi's friend than hers, but Shoshie might figure Rose for a favorite of Mimi's connections. She looked like she'd just come off the pitch though, face red, hair messy. It was unlikely to have been a workout just failing to find a shortcut. "'Malright, good, just... prefect patrols." She leaned to look past Rose, toward the alcove she'd come out from. "I'm reasonably certain the only shortcut on this floor is Timothy the Timid-- he's been using the same password for decades now I hear-- but that'll take you all the way down toward the greenhouses. I um... should walk you back to the third floor though," she suggested, uncertain of whether to prioritize her investigation or getting Rose back to her common room.

Shoshie leaned to look past her and Rose stepped in her line of vision with a bright smile. Part of her hoped that Finch was already gone, but she didn't dare look behind her to check. The prefect in front of her started to tell her about the only shortcut on this floor and Rose feigned surprise. The lion knew the castle inside and out, but she knew that the ancient castle had more surprises in store for her. "Oh, I didn't know," she lied. "Yeah, that'd be okay. I was getting bored being all by myself anyway." Rose offered her another smile and fell into step with her.
Out of all the prefects, Rose liked Shoshie the most. Maybe it had something to do with her being her friend's sister, but also maybe it had something to do with the adversity she's known in her life. Kids could be mean and unaccepting. Most wouldn't say anything to her face, but Rose heard what they whispered behind her back. At least, she used to. It became clear pretty quickly that the lion wouldn't tolerate any talk about Shoshie or her transition. "You guys played hard against Ravenclaw. Shame about the snitch," she said as they walked, trying to make some small talk. Rose was competitive like the snake beside her, but their game was already over and Rose was feeling generous today.

A small part of Shoshie said that Rose was acting suspicious, stepping in front of her like that. Another, much broader part of her supposed that if there were other students being obscured, they would likely run off as soon as the prefect was gone anyway. She resolved to return after Rose was safely escorted in the direction of her common room, poke around for contraband, and leave it be if she didn't find anything. She didn't actually want to get anyone in trouble, and coming back would constitute a dutiful completion of her evening rounds as prefect.
"Agh," she groaned at the comments on their most recent game. "Our hawks head formation was sloppy." Maybe Shoshie wouldn't share the specifics of it being mostly her fault... She'd been rushing, too close to Ivy. Maybe as a fellow player Rose would have recognized it, but the game was fast paced. Plenty of things got missed, even by the pundits, and besides, they'd actually been up several points before Goldswithe caught the snitch. "Hopefully next year I'll show everyone how seeking is done, yeah?" Rushing was no problem for a seeker. Speed was the whole game.

If Finch had any sense, which Rose knew that he did, he'd be long gone by now. There were other ways of getting out of the fifth floor. And with Nate as a best mate, she was sure he knew which route to take to avoid detection. Still, part of her was sad to miss out on more time with him. There was always tomorrow. Little did she know that Finch would find out something that would have him avoiding everyone, including her.
Talking about Quidditch was one of Rose's favorite pastimes. Talking about Quidditch with someone who truly understood the game and was just as passionate as she was about it was even better. Rose bobbed her head a little as Shoshie complained about their hawks head formation. "It could have been better," she said, perhaps a bit generously. "You guys still did well in either case. I mean, Claire's a Quinn, you know? You gave her a run for her money." Technically she was a Gable, but she had Quinn blood in her and that meant something in the Quidditch world. She glanced over at Shoshie with a smile at her next words. "That'd be nice, wouldn't it?" Shoshie has been vying for the Seeker position for years, but was stuck as a chaser. "You think Jazzy will ever give it up?"
